For a dedicated track car FWD, you really don't need AWD. Example, Jotech Racing (aka Kenny Tran Racing) regularly runs the Q-Power Scion tC to low 8's at 170MPH+. It is a full bodied tC with exception of the front clip. It is powered by a stroked and bored Toyota truck block 4cyl making mega boost and power applying power only as FWD. This is, of course, a full-on drag car. You are right about being insane driving the streets with that much power in a FWD only chassis. Wicked torque steer would put you into a curb, rail, or another vehicle on an uneven street. I think 400WHP should be the uppermost limit for a daily driver FWD.
