It should be the same except that with a mechanical guage you don't have to have a power source (unless you want to have it light up of course).

You'll still have to tap into an oil/water coolant sender, if not in the block itself.

Another disadvantage of the mechanical guage is that the "conduit/raceway" (I'm in the electrical business ha ha) actually carries the material/component/liquid to the guage inside the car. This DOES then in turn increase the likelyhood of creating a leak inside the cabin of your car.

Electrical obviously only carries a wire. Something to think about.

Other than that, they're pretty much the same as far as the installation goes. Hope that helped.
