yes and know you have to rember with a short ram intake you have simply a large round filter to suck in air from all angles go straight into a tube that is desighned to be the least restricktive path for the air to flow into the intake with what it sounds like you are doing is removing part of the box limiting your air to one direction and not utalizing the stock intake and all it's parts that designed to work together in putting the most air possible to the intake. you have to rember that the pipe that runs down into the fender is bringing fresh cooler air directly into your intake box. yes i agree you are getting air though the whole but that air is not being sent into the intake. my suggestion if you want to get better air flow would be to remove the insert in the bumber right infront of the inlet channel leading up to the intake box. this is what i do when racing with my cai and it allows plenty of air to push in and around the pipe so that it can have the freshest coolest air available. hell if you think the pipe going into the the fender is so restricktive then get ya piece of three inch pipe bend it slightly to fit around the corner and rock on.
