Take Defensive Driving course. It is a statistical fact that most injury/death related vehicular accidents, involving no seatbelt use, occurs on short trips near the victims homes. It is also a proving statistical fact that a driver, when not properly belted, can loose control of the vehicle and cause injury/death to others.
The latter I have personally seen. A good ole boy lost control of his truck on the ice, fish-tailed, then disappeared from the front seat. After the truck careened out-of-control cutting across lanes of on-coming traffic and running into a brick wall, the driver popped his head up from the passenger floorboard. He had that, "How the heck did I end up over here?" look.
