The CAI is not going to make your car run lean at the stock 7PSI. I ran a short ram on mine for a long time with no problems, even at 9PSI. When Kenny Tran tuned mine, he said it was running leaner than he would have liked. He stated that a honda motor would have rattled apart, but Toyota engines are so well controlled and de-tuned a bit for reliability. If you look at the OEM air box, you will find that is a CAI intake already.

The problem that I can see is if you improperly set-up your short/CAI intake. The MAF is calibrated to measure the flow of air past its sensor. Part of its calibration parameters is the diameter of the pipe and the distance the MAF is from the TB. A 4" diameter pipe or having the MAF too close to the TB could cause you to go lean enough to knock.

Just a side note, I had the Greddy Ultimate wired but null on all the maps. There should have been no performance change but their was. I firmly believe that the Greddy actually leaned out my motor causing the ECM to pull back timing. That is why I had such dismal performance after I installed it. It is now tuned and in trim thank to Jotech.
