Question Temperature Dependant Noise

I am in NY and it gets in the single digits around here. I have noticed that when the temp drops below about 20F outside, when I go over bumps I hear a tapping in the area of my windshield where my registration would be if it were on the passenger side. The sound is like someone tapping on the glass with a screw if you can imagine that. The noise increases intensity as temperature drops and is unbearable on some of the roads I drive. There isn't anything in my glovebox and it isn't the wiper.
I took it in but as fate would have it, it wasn't cold enough so they couldn't hear it. I'm stuck.
