Default iPod socket to upgraded radio

Our "new" used '06 tC originally came with the standard radio, which meant no iPod socket in the center console. The person we bought it from removed the standard radio and replaced it with an aftermarket JVC. We took the JVC out and replaced it with an upgraded OEM Pioneer radio. This had iPod capability BUT there was no iPod socket in the center console. We didn't want to just plug the iPod into the "AUX" outlet, we wanted to control the iPod from the radio. There are two cables needed to connect an iPod socket in the console to radio. One, PT546-21061, goes from a connector under the shifter to the center console and contains the iPod socket. The other, PT546-21062, goes from the console iPod socket to your iPod.

Time needed: no more than 30 minutes

Tools: Flat bladed putty knife
Philips screwdriver
Metric socket (not sure of size)

Cautions: Remove the panels CAREFULLY. Make SURE the door over the radio is CLOSED when removing and replacing the cover.

Use the putty knife or your fingernails to slowly pull up on the back part of the shifter cover. Then pull back on the upper part of the cover.

The cupholder lifts straight up. Loosen with your fingernails or the putty knife.

Unscrew the shifter knob and remove shifter cover. Unplug the wire to the 12v outlet.

MAKE SURE THE DOOR IS CLOSED and then CAREFULLY pull up and back on the sides of the radio A/C cover. Again, with your fingernails or the putty knife.

Disconnect the A/C plug.

Remove the radio by unscrewing the two lower philips head screws and the two upper nuts.

Pull the radio toward you gently. Look in the space behind the radio and you should see a rectangular white plug.

Place this plug into the iPod socket

Reattach the radio with the two nuts and two screws. Plug in the A/C plug and carefully replace the radio/AC cover.

Under the shifter cover, you'll find a white socket. This will be connected to cable PT546-21061 which goes from this socket to the iPod socket in the center console.

Slide your hand under the center console and feel for the iPod cover blank. Push this into the center console.

Feed the white plug of cable PT 546-21061 through the rectanglar hole in the center console and snap the iPod connector into this recangular hole.

Connect the white socket from the 21061 cable to the white socket under the shifter.

Connect your iPod to cable PT546-21062 and then plug the other end into the iPod socket in the center console . Turn on the radio and the iPod and you should see "Scion" on the screen of the iPod.

Carefully reattach the cover with the cupholders and then the shifter cover.
