You guys should be careful if you wanna spray tint them. I got a fix-it awhile ago. Overlay is more easy to remove as compared to spray tint. Took me a couple hours of hard rubbing with lacquer thinner to remove the VHT nightshades.

As for the the question regarding what looks better? I think spraying them looks better, if you take your time and be patient it should be fine. Just do a good job of prepping it (cleaning and sanding). As for the fading that someone mentioned... It only fades if you decide to skip the clear coat phase, a vital part that alot of people choose to skip, which i dont understand. You can even use cheap spray can clear coat and it will look nice. UPOL #1 worked best for me.

Yeah I think the spray looks a hundred times better. I bought those stupid layovers like a year ago and they just fell off because of the weather change here in Minnesota. Spraying is the way to go. I just used tutorial on this site. they had 2 different tutorials and i used the more simpler of the two. turned out absolutely great. AND HOLDS UP TO CLIMATE CHANGE BETTER

For me personally i prefer the vinyl sheets from tintmylights.com, decalfx.com, and metrodecals.com. That spray thing is a pain in the behind to remove from the lights. In my opinion the vinyl overlays are better because you can take them off without damaging your headlights/tail lights.
And another good thing about the vinyl overlays is that you can switch colors, i went from smoked headlights to blue and to yellow now, and love switching styles. JMHO

Looks like TintMyLights.com is now http://www.xpinvinyls.com/ that's weird..

I called the number on the xpinvinyls.com website and they told me that Nick is still the owner which is great! He is a great guy by the way and we ended up buying some more film, same product same quality, and better customer service!

I screwed up one sheet and he hooked me up with another one i just had to pay for the shipping $2 and that was it!

About to go VHT smoke on my TYC's. What clear coat has everyone been using that works the best; acrylic, enamel, laquer, urethane? I bought an auto detailing gun and this expensive 2-part clear coat to do some touch up areas.

I tinted my tail lights. Came out real nice. You can go to Auto Zone and get this stuff called LENS TINT made by Rustoleum. All you gotta do it mask off the taillights and apply a couple of light coats. One can will do the trick. Really easy and cheap. just make sure both coats are the same on each taillight.

Post up some pics. I am about to try the VHT nightshades but with a two-part acrylic clear.

I see you went fairly light with it. That is a good thing. Have you thought about shooting a clear on it, wetsand, and then buff polish?

I did go fairly light with it due to them just being stock with oem bulbs. I may shoot another coat on after I upgrade my backup light. There is a light coat of clearcoat on it but I went with more of a matte finish. Thought it looked cool. The picture doesnt do justice.

Did you spray it with the lamps on the car? I see you got overspray on your license plate.

You might be careful spraying over that clear. It might crackle on ya. You should wetsand with about 2,000 grit wetsand paper first to take off the sheen of the clear. That should alleviate the crackle/orange peel and provide a firm foundation for the new coats.

my friend does this at a shop he works at and sas that the VHT niteshade is much better then the tint but the final product is not as shiny and clear as the tint would be with the sticker type stuff.

i used just regular cheap gloss black paint and sprayed it on with real light and even coats. i even messed up the first time putting it on so dark i couldnt get any light thru and i just used some paint thinner to strip it back off, diddnt hurt the plastic or anything.

+1 for VHT being better than the most of the other tint out there. Good luck finding it in stores though.

However, you can get spray tint as shiny, if not shinier then the film tint. Its all about how well you wetsand, buff, and what type of Clearcoat you use. If you guys want to keep it simple and use spray can for clear coat, I HIGHLY recommend UPOL #1. Probably the best and most cost effective spray can clear coat. Comes pretty close to professional clear if done right and its pretty damn shiny =].
