Default Quality HID Kit (no flicker/misfire)

Hey guys I have an 08 TC with factory projectors. I bought a no name HID kit were i live for like 150 bucks. I get misfires and flicker all the time! It is getting frustrating. Anybody know of a quality HID kit I can order online? Please help. I fear I will burn something soon. I know for a fact the kit is wired correctly, but this kit has no relay and no direct power from battery. Does that mean it is poor quality? I let the shop that I bought it at connect it. Not only that, I do have a decent knowledge of electrical. Everything makes good contact. Please Help!

I use ExEs digital HID kits in my lows and fogs. I'm running 8000k in the lows and 25000k in the fogs. They are around 180 bucks and if you're interested go to dxhid.com. Dave's an awesome guy and will take care of ya. I know in my XRS I had to disable the drl's so the lights wouldn't flicker. Why you ask? When your drl's are on they run a lower voltage than actually turning your lights on. This causes the HID'S to not fully power up which causes them to flicker. Hope i could help.

I have read that during startup they are going to flicker a little, this is just the voltage leveling out from the ballasts, but after that they shouldn't. I got mine from oznium.com, I have the 6000K kit and they are warrantied for a year and I was having problmes with mine and the customer service was great, when it comes to HID's you get what you pay for, so spend the little extra for the better quality, you will be better off in the long run.

I would definitely go with the ExEs digitals. I personally know David and have seen all the work he has done to get the best HID kits. He has been in the HID business for like 7+ years also, so he knows his stuff pretty well. Can't beat a 3 year warranty too. He offers exceptional customer service as well. If there are enough people interested I will talk to him about setting up a group buy for this forum.

Oh and TCwolf08 your problem IS most likely not having a good electrical source. You really need a wiring harness with a relay for direct connection to the battery, for best performance. I would try making one (google for the wiring diagrams) its pretty simple, parts can be had at AutoZone, or buying one (several places where you can buy online) before you purchased a new kit. OR if you don't want to do either of those let me know and I'll try to make you one. I've never experienced flickering with any of my kits except when they are brand new or if the bulbs havent been fired in a while, then the salts in the bulb have to "drop".

Hope this helped.
Zac

I also know Dave personally and outsource for him. I'm actually in the process of testing new bulbs that he's going to offer. You don't need to start a group buy on the forum but go to his site....dxhid.com and there's a group buy for the exes kits going on as we speak w/awesome warranties, prices, and service. Dave also offers a relay harness if you don't want to disable your drl's, the harness is only like 15 bucks.

Default cool

I really appreciate the help guys. It is driving me crazy. I actually modified my connectors and soldered a 4700uf 35v cap before each ballast and it helped with the flicker during sustained operation. I just need to find out why the left light misfires upon cold start in the evening. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks again guys.

well, if you bought from ebay then i will say it's the ballast itself. if it was the bulb then you'd either get a constant flicker and or the bulb would go out. a good way to check is next time you get the flicker or the bulb goes out, turn your lights off then immediately turn them back on , if they fire up then it's a faulty ballast. like i said, if it's ebay then that's your mistake right there.

again, i can't stress enough on the fact that if your drl's aren't disabled you will get the flicker no matter what. reason being is your drl's don't supply enough wattage to power the kit, now if you turn your lights on it draws more wattage which the kit needs to feed off.

ditto
but one thing, I have my drl's still running with no problems. idk if the tC is just different than the corolla but i think the drl's run off a separate bulb/circuit on the tC.
