    Default HID and projector help!

These headlights I might be getting are customized stock ones. The dude puts 2 projectors in each headlight. 2 out of the 4 are bi xenon I believe. Anyway, I was wondering with the projectors do I need an hid kit? And because there is four, would I need two kits? Never messed around in this area of lighting so sorry if I sound dumb haha.

It really depends on how well he modified them. Are you able to use the stock harness to plug the bulbs in?

What was the donor car? If the projectors came off a car with hid standard, then the bulbs will be different than the kits from places like mobilehid. Cars that have hid standard usually use bulbs labeled "d1" & "d2" I believe. If you google "stock hid replacement bulb" and check out a few sites, you'll understand what I mean...

Oh, and don't bother with hid in the high beams. That's just a waste of money since you'll almost never drive with your high beams on, and flashing an hid bulb kills the igniter.

they have to be retrofitted. there are a few sites that do it

    www.customlightz.com

i would do HIDs for the low beams and some bright white slyvania silverstars or something for the highs so the difference isnt too much from low to high

The headlights he's getting are already customized with the projectors I think. That's why I'm questioning the quality of the modding :/

I'm at work right now on my blackberry and don't have the link but search littodevil scion tc in google and it'll be like the first one. He has a walk through on how he did them but on his site page he says he does them for people. He's yet to email me back about them though. But he uses projectors from the fx And one other kind. Most of it is jibberish to me. Maybe one of you can make sense of it for me.

ok this guy is good. this is how it's done. +1 retrofitting! that is very close to the setup i want. except no halos and i dont wanna lose the amber signal on the lower front corner... but it's a good look either way.

did u ask for a price quote? if so, let us know how much he's willing to charge (for single projector --- quad projector --- + CCFL Halos --- plus turn signal mod --- plus HIDs)

Yeah I know he looks legit. I want the quad projectors and red halos and then gonna red out my fog lights. But technically I don't need hid with the projectors? Do I need different bulbs? And are there any hid that will give me a red hue. I know red is low on the spectrum so probably not right.

I think the fx came with hids standard. I don't know if you can go to regular light bulbs...

And I don't reccomend red hids or fogs. With that you'll put yourself at risk with the local law enforcement. (Any) Red lights on the front of cars is reserved for emergency vehicles only (at least that's what most local laws include). Stick with the basic colors, or if you want red for *show purposes* then that'd be cool.

Be different, but don't put yourself at risk to do so.

red halos would look bad@$$, and there is a company making multi colored HID kits for show, but like i said i'd prolly steer clear of them for everyday useage.

i just read through the article that guy made. that's a lot of work! if he does charge people to do it, then it's prolly an arm and a leg, not including parts cost for the fx/audi projectors. at that rate, i'd settle for the knock offs!

I wish TYC made projector headlights for our cars. their designs were really tasteful.

the red halos or any light like graphite said will get you noticed by the cops real quick. keep that for the parking lot!

the one price I was quoted for the quad setup was about $1600. I think it included hid's and a new set of tC housings. it is a very expensive setup... but go for it!

That seems very expensive considering you can get headlights with just single projectors for like 300. I understand the retrofitting and everything but idk seems pricey to me. Unfortunately if they are that much I won't be buying them. Worst comes to worst ill do it myself like he did.

i looked over that write up again --- there are parts that involve a (i think) a decent amount of technical skill and tools: machining brackets out of billet aluminum, cutting, grinding, and shaping, curing... im unsure this is a DIY unless u have access to an extensive automotive shop...

unfortunately, some things are just better left to a pro, even if you have to fork over a few more dollars than you want

thata funny you said that because i was gonna say the exact same thing in my next post. im either gonna just save up and have custom lights do something for me or just not get them haha. i gotta get another speaker cab for my guitar amp head and get my amp head fixed especially because the newer band i just started is getting looked at by interscope and epic records (which is sweet. signing = money, money = more car mods!). AND with my luck there is one place on the east coast that fixes them. AND if they cant fix it, they have to send it to GERMANY to get it replaced. awesome right? i cant win. i really really do want the quad projectors, some red underglow and engine glow, wheel spacers, a custom hood, viniati spoiler, SUPERCHARGER, new taillights have to get new tires soon, and a jensen audio/video system. i need to hit the lottery or something man. but if i do, ill hook my club-tc guys up so dont worry haha
