Default Headlight led... I hate it!!!

So I just spent a chuck of change on some bright white headlight bulbs. I've always preferred the white light over the amber. Well, after installing them, I noticed the headlights still looked amber (but the actual light beam was white as expected). After looking into the housing, I saw that there is a little amber LED sitting in there, making the headlight look amber. I hate the little things...

So my question is, has anybody either 1) changed the LED to another (legal) color or 2) removed/disabled the LED so it no longer makes the housing look amber?

If so, does it require removal of the housing to perform? I just read the how-to on removing the headlight and saw it involves removing the front bumper. Trying to avoid that if possible, but willing to do it if necessary.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is not an LED. It is just a small wedge bulb that can be removed from under the hood. Just reach around to the bottom of the headlight housing and you will feel the harness. Twist it and should come right out...

Any negative impact from removing this light? Was I right to assume it is only there to illuminate the housing?

When you are talking about amber bulbs you mean the standard incandescent bulbs? These are around 2500K in color. The accent/parking bulbs are 194 wedge type. You can replace with the dipped blue bulbs that emit a slightly whiter light. Better yet, just replace them with wedge style LEDs The blue ones in the pic actually blend with the headlights and give them a HID look, especially with high quality Xenon bulbs.

The bulbs that redneck is referring to is known as the daytime driving light....they are very easy to remove...I have been driving w/o mine for the past 1 1/2 yrs and nothing wrong....just remember to put the housing back in.....I did at one time have an actual white led cluster bulb in there but when a couple of the leds went out I went to change them out and noticed that they were actually pulling alot of power and started to burn the housing...needless to say I have yet to put them back in...

fyi...i drive with my headlights on all the time anyway....

Ah ok, thanks guys for answering my amateur questions. I was worried the blue LEDs would be too blue and would get me a ticket. lol

having a blue light inside there.. and you just driving around with it... and well just your parking lights.. is considered illegal in most states..

however, once you turn on your headlights... they'll wash out the blue color and make them less noticeable.

    how to change them?
    twist, remove, replace..
    LEDs.... yay!

Hmm... I'm thinking I'll just go with white LEDs then. To avoid any problems. I'm sure it will still look sweet.

I too had those multi-angle LED bulbs. Man, did those fill the reflector with color. Just as you experienced, they began to fail. I switched over to these inexpensive, Pilot brand LEDs with excellent results. They do not fill the reflector as much with the single LED, but they can easily handle the heat of high temp bulbs.

    Try these:
    Pilot - White
    Pilot - Blue

I ran a multi-color led set up for a little while...i got mine from here
believe it or not they work really well....of course when you have ur headlights on most of the color gets washed out....but when you have them running by themselves...say in low light conditions they look awesome...and they last for friggin ever...I run a set for my licenses plate and have had the same set in for the last year....
Lookin for a new set of wheels...hit me up
