NOT TRUE!!
Take it to a reputable audio shop, they should be able to do a Hi/Lo switch that allows you to have an aftermarket sub and amp on the stock head unit. Its how my car is ran for the time being

well if you're going for bass, don't buy new speakers, you are gonna want to buy a subwoofer. right now i have 4 infinity 6 1/2 speakers running off an amp, and the highs are clear and they sound incredible. little base to speak of, however, but thats next on my sound list. invest some $$ and buy a kicker L5 with the large box

Eh i have a L5 with a 400w class D kicker amp to it. Hits pretty nicely. Personally id rather have the Alpine LAT (Name escapes me ATM). Just becuase i like to be able to take out the whole thing when i want to run SCCA and not have to leave an amp in there. Not to mention takes up less room and they HIT LIKE A MOTHER.
But if you want to go regular sub/amp. Take a good long look at Memphis Audio.

99.9999999999999999999% of the time, you pay for what you get.
JL might be expensive (When you get into there W6 and W7, the W0-W3s aernt expensive at all), but you know exactly what your paying for with JL.
