All of that is not necessary. I just took it apart.

Make sure that you turn the double T hook in both directions horizontal, feeling for the right direction to pull the hook out. It only comes out in one of the four positions.

Pull off the door's threshold and the door's rubber weather stripping to ease access to the front edge of the panel. Now, pull the little plug at the bottom of the panels, under where the bottom of the seat cushion. Pull out the center panel and bottom panel together, they're both together as one piece.

You will need to pull out the rear bottom seat cushion, but you can work around the back upright seatbacks, remembering that it has the reclining feature, and using that to access the difficult to reach attachment plug at the rear of the panel, at the base of the seatback.

Be gentle, don't be afraid to step away from the job for a bit.

Jimmy

You are right, there is a shorter method as you describe. What I posted was the tech pub's directions to remove the entire side panel all the way to the back. Sorry, did not have enough time to prune it down.
