Hey guys i just recently installed my viper alarm 791 xv. The reason why i installed my remote start was because of the security and also to warm up my car in teh morning cuz im lazy ahha. Everytime i turn on the remote start it attempts to turn on but shuts off. After the second a attempt it turn on. it gets kinda embarassing when u try to turn it off and it wont start. i installed under a licensed dealer. Is it something i did wrong!!!?????
SOMEONE please help. |

is it programmed for starting with tach or by voltage? if its checking voltage, try a longer crank time or try using the low voltage threshold. For some reason my gf's car will only start when its on level ground, if its at the top of our driveway where its on a hill, the RS wont kick in for some reason. still not sure why.

im assuming you had a shop install it for you then? there are 2 ways to get a remote start to work with the car:
1. voltage check (the remote start checks the voltage coming from the battery and will only crank for a specified period of time[adjustable] and then will stop cranking. if the car doesnt start it tries again until it does(up to i think 5 tries) then it shuts down) 2. tach check (the remote start cranks the starter until the tach reaches enough rpm that the car is running (i think its about 150rpm but i could be wrong on that) and if it doesnt start within 6 seconds it stop and retries a second time) most shops are going for speed, not necessarily perfection, so they use voltage check. it keeps them from having to run another wire under the hood and just take 15 seconds to program the unit to voltage instead. If you are setup for voltage, the programming can be changed to crank for longer(sounds like what your problem may be). default time is 0.6 seconds. it can be increased to 2 seconds(although i dont recommend that) It sounds like your programming needs to be changed to 1.0 seconds and your problem should be solved. |

that makes a little more sense. so what's the better way to set it up, voltage or tach? then can i just ask them to do it that way?
