I see. I might just be able to move the overlay from the auto onto the manual. Makes sense. I am fairly certain that the Dealership can use that special interface tool to correct the odometer. They have to be able to do it for cars that have had defective/damaged gauge clusters.

there's no tool i know of that a dealership would have able to correct the odometer reading. toyota's techstream and scantools can only do so much, and something like an odometer change alone would require plenty of paperwork.. along with carrying too much risk for any tech with a brain to mess around a car's odo reading.

and much in looking into it in the past, the only thing i've seen is an order form to order a brand new cluster preprogrammed by Denso (or whoever) from the factory with the claimed mileage of the vehicle it is ordered for.

that's how damaged clusters get replaced.. (legally)
    LEDs.... yay!

Hmm, makes sense. That would make a cluster replacement very expensive. I wonder where the NVRAM is on the gauge cluster? If it can be identified, one postulates whether it can be transfered to another cluster or not.
