    Default Push button start?!?!?

Okay to make a long story short...I want to do this...I have been to pivot.com and they seem to have a nice and easy setup. I have read posts in the past on other forums about needing to have the key in the ignition and set to acc. this is not a big deal it help to keep the car from being stolen. I good with that.
My real question is wouldn't there be a way to bypass this in the same fashion that Nissan has the Maxima? You just have to have the key in the car and you will be able to start the car. Obviously this would require a rcvr/xmtr that would be wired into the starter and ignition. How much work would it be and does anyone think that it would be worth it???

If you could do that it would friggin sweet. Just my

you need to put the key into the car like normal.. turn it to "ON"
    (not "ACC")

and instead of taking the few seconds to just continue turning the key to turn on the car, you reach over to your button and press it.

for a "smart key" system that you're thinking of... it would require ALOT of time, work and money.. and completely impractical to add to the car... you'll need a new ecu and all the tinkering and gadgets that would cost.. well.. ALOT.

it'd be cheaper just to have a remote start type setup.. you sitting in the car.. and you pressing the button.. and somehow bypass the remote start from shutting off..

yea... have fun with that though...
it'll make the car much, much more easy to steal.

can't deny it's a neat idea... and i myself have thought of transplanting a system from another Toyota vehicle that has it into the tC..

but it's EXTREMELY and for practical sakes, i would just say it would be impossible.
as it wouldn't be worth it..

I trust ur ideas and input from passed conversations....

I was just throwing that out there to see what options there were. Obviously the most direct route is not only the most cost affective but easiest.

Would I be wrong in assuming that the keys for the tc have a signal that must be with in certain distance of the dash in order to assist with security of the vehicle.........I am almost sure that is mentioned in the owners manual. I was thinking that maybe this security feature could be utilized for the above purpose. Just a thought......?

the immobilizer system utilizes a chip inside the key, which is read when the key is in the ignition.. the proximity the car needs the key for it to read...

well.. key in ignition...yeah.. it needs to be really close.

it's also tied to the car's ECU, which it's another obstacle to deal with..

The "chip" inside the tC's key is nothing more then a resistor. The car senses the change in current inside the key slot, which tells it "okay, the right key is in there so I can start now". But Squall is right when he says it is a hard mod to perform, especially if you want to do it right. I saw a thread on another forum where a guy explains that he wants a true pushbutton start where the key doesn't have to be in the ignition, but he found he had to tackle the "key chip" thing as well as the "wheel lock" in the steering column. He decided to make it so the keys need to be placed inside the cup holder for the resister to be sensed and then he could just flip a switch to start the car. Let me see if I can find the youtube video of it.

Found it. This is pretty sweet:
YouTube - Scion tC Push Button Start w/ No Key

I believe he said it costed him $80 in materials, but it also took him like 2 months (off and on work) and that he had a 2nd vehicle to get around in.

NO! goodness gracious is that just a gross conceptual error.

if you knew what a resistor was, then by golly you would know that would be the last thing it was.

it is indeed an RFID chip that is read at short distances, like one of those security cards you swipe across a sensor to grant you access into an area.

geez, if it was a resistor and if such a thing could be sensed, I would be able to steal SO many cars that used such a system.

Hmm, well, you would know better then I would. And yes, I know what a resistor is. lol. That's just what I've read/heard it being in the push-button start DIYs.
