    Thumbs up Updated My Sound System!

    This past week was spent overhauling my sound system for more wattage and SPL. My old set up which consisted of a Planet Audio 1250 Watt Amp and a PowerAcoustik 5 Farad Cap hit 133.6dB on my friends Term Lab SPL Meter. The new setup pictured below is a lot more involved and wasn't a cheap upgrade by any means. We did one SPL run to test the new set up and hit 137.9 dB which was almost a 5 dB gain, very impressive! On another note we found that the Optima Yellow Top Battery thats under the hood as we speak, can't take the added wattage increase and watched the volt meter on the Scangauge II go from 13.8-14.0 volts down to 11.8-12.0 volts. So next on the to-do-list is to buy another Kinetik Battery HC1200. Later on down the road I am going to take the alternator out and have the internals respun to allow for more power.

    * Cadence ZRS-9004 Class A/B 4 Channel Amp (4x90 Watts @ 4 Ohm's)
    * Cadence ZRS-8000D Class-D Mono Block Amp (1 Ohm RMS Power 1x2250 Watts) (Peak Power 1x4500 Watts)
    * Scosche 0 Gauge wire and RCA Cables
    * Kinetik HC600 Power Cell
    * PowerAcoustik 5 Farad Capasitor w/ Custom Built/Carpeted Panel
    * Custom Built/Carpeted Battery Panel w/ Acrylic Window
    * StreetGlow LED's Strips wired into existing switch panel

    Thanks man, I love it a lot, but I can't use the bass too much or I'll kill the optima. Once the new battery goes in we're going to do another SPL run and see if the SPL increases. I can't wait to see what people say this yr at carshows. I also got creative and downloaded music video's from YouTube.com and converted them to DVD so I can play them on my JVC headunit and play them at carshows.

    The wattage on the amp is going to depend on what the subwoofer itself it rated for/max handling/RMS. You don't want to buy and install an amp that is too much for the sub to handle and blow it.

    My old amp came out which was a planet audio 1250 watt/class-d mono block. I still have the amp if you want it, let me know. Its in excellent condition and works great.

    I would get a sub woofer that can handle 1000 watts/RMS or greater. I should also inform you that I have 2 Planet Audio 12's that will work great with that Planet Audio Amp. When I had the setup in my 2003 Saturn L200 I managed to hit 144 db with the amp and two subs, plus the box is slot-ported/MDF and fully carpeted.

    Cadence, I have a really dope idea for your next audio show. Take a high powered laser pointer and mount it just under the center, rear headrest point it towards the review mirror. It might work OK without this, but for better visual effect you will need some sort of fog machine or dry ice. During your SPL or demo runs, you activate the laser and fog. The acoustical reverberations vibrate the mirror which, in turn, will create patterns of light based on the Hertz of the soundwave. Being that the mirror is a day/night unit, it has 2 layers of glass that will refract the light beam into even more patterns. Might win you some show points.
