I want to make my tC AWD. i know it sounds insane and what not. But Ken Gushi drives the rear wheel drive drift tC, so im thinkin, why not just figure out how to make it AWD. if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations. let me know. thanks.

Check out Christian Rado and the guys at World Racing. They are purportedly work on such an animal for Time Attack. Me, I am sticking with a mid-mount, RWD V-6 tC.

WHAAAAAAAA?! tell me about such a wonderous car. i am interested.
He won't give up those details yet....I've tried.
A turbo, exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it. With a supercharger, air goes in, witchcraft happens and you go faster - Jeremy Clarkson
Navy. can you pm me about the RWD conversion. My friend matt and I are gathering supplies so maybe we can start on it this winter. We want to see if someone thats not in a huge shop like ptuning or world racing can do it. I need to get some info for him. Thanks
End threadjack
AWD... goodluck. Its rediculously had to do a RWD conversion. But its not impossible.

oh my, a RWD tC would be sick nasty. I just don't want to really screw up my car, its my first. lol. What car would have a RWD drive shaft that would fit? The Celica is basically the same as the tC, but i don't think any of them were RWD.
a 94 supra rear fits nicely, with a driveshaft from a jdm toyota car that the name is slipping me right now. Or you can ball out and make stuff yourself but your talking $$$$

yea deff. I'm low on cash, so right now thats not really an option.
the avensis is the mother car that the tC's chassis was taken from..
and since they make an AWD avensis overseas.... *grabs parts off car*..
*weld, weld... drill.. cut.. weld... weld..*
LEDs.... yay!

Avensis is available in AWD? Insane. I was unaware. I just Googled it.
Was also unaware that Gushi drove a TC let alone a RWD one. Just Googled that as well. Very interesting.
Would LOVE to have a RWD TC. I had a builder approach me at work (a customer of ours who owns a tune shop... I work for a steel company) about converting my car to RWD. Talked to him a bit about how they would do that and it would have been all custom. Way too much money right now.
Good luck mang.
yup, talked to Gushi and his crew about the car and they did a bit of fabbing but for the most part used avensis parts from overseas for the drivetrain

Yeah, I just spent about an hour o the internet researching it LOL.
Very cool stuff.
There is a 4 part video on Youtube for anyone who's interested too.
could you send us a link to that video? I'd like to check it out. How much did the guy say that custom work would cost?
He didn't give me a quote. It was just a quick 10 minute conversation about cars in general. He runs a custom shop and said he was familiar enough with TC's that he knew he "could" do it and just said it would be custom. I equated this to a lot of $$. He gave me his number. If I ever get serious enough to dig into it, I'll post something on it.

The Avensis is only related to the tC in concept only. It shares no sheetmetal or parts with the tC. If you happen to be laying on the ground and staring at your rear (cross-member guys, cross-member), you will quickly discover that it will completely and rather easily unbolt from the rear subframe. There are plenty of attachment points to add just about any rear end that will fit between the rails. Of course, you will have to fab up trailing arm, panhard, draglinks, and other brackets. Not hard if you have a metal shop at your disposal. Me, I am sticking with the mid-mount, RWD twin turbo V6 dream.
Back to the AWD topic. My ultimate question is why? AWD platforms add weight and complexity to a vehicle. Mechanically controlled AWD platforms are too inefficient and it would be very difficult to integrate an electronically controlled unit into our ECM/electrical. Besides, properly setup tC can grab and shoot corners with the best of them (ok, ok, maybe not the new GTR). What the tC looses in grip, it more than makes up with it with the holeshot out of the corners. Just look at what the professionally raced tC's are doing on the circuits. These are not radical, race-prepped machines but mildly moddified street variants. In my opinion, throwing in an AWD drivetrain that is purposely built and balanced for another vehicle in a tC will most likely end in not so impressive results for the effort. Though I could be dead wrong because the tC sure has surprised us all in its abilities, including me.

Yeah, I am not keen on the idea of AWD TC either.
RWD, yes. Maybe someday for me...
you seriously have no idea how much 5 seconds off the record is worth for a FWD car on Willow Springs Raceway don't you..
for the first time on the books .. someone put a spoiler on a vehicle WHERE IT ACTUALLY BELONGS for it to function.
it's not a damn street car.. it's a time attack vehicle.. a TRACK vehicle.
now if some idiotic moron put a front spoiler like that on a street car.. then we'll have issues.
LEDs.... yay!

Many moons ago, in a distant forum; I once waged a battle against the ideology that a FF car did not need rear downforce in the the form of a spoiler (wing) due to the drive wheels being in the front. No one seemed to understand that all 4 wheels needed to be planted for traction and transitioning thru a hard corner.

Yes, I realize how much 5 seconds is. I know a lot about racing. From a non racecar standpoint it looks ugly. Thats all i was saying. If I was racing my car you would damn well bet i would have whatever made me faster on it. Wether it be a front spoiler, painting it pink with "IM GAY" written on it. I dont care. I was just saying it looks ugly. I never said it wasnt functional.
