    Default Clutch???

Please help. I started driving my 06 tc stopped at a stop sign, when all of a sudden it wouldnt allow me to put it back in gear (any of them). I turned the car off and on again, I pumped the clutch a few times and finally got it in gear...it grabbed the gear because when I took my foot off the brake (clutch still in) the car started moving. I put it in a parking spot and turned it off, when I tried to put it in gear, it went into first and the whole car was shaking. After going in reverse parking it, then shifting through the gears it stopped and I drove it home. What would cause this? What do I need to do?

    Thanks

Could possibly be the clutch friction material could be delaminating or fraying. Your clutch release bearing could be failing/failed. Do you feel any roughness when depressing the clutch? Does your clutch pedal feel soft or like it is in a lower position?

    Default Clutch????

The clutch doesn't feel any different than it has since I got it. It hasn't done it since, but I don't want to drive it not knowing what it is. Is there a way to eliminate what it isn't or what it could be? Thanks...

Sounds like that darn old clutch again... What year is the car? If it is new, I would take it in to the dealership and see if they will warranty the repairs. I have noticed that Scion tC's have had a pretty bad problem with clutches since I had my problems... (my clutch went out at 2218 miles)

Is this yet another example of Toyota not accepting that there is a problem with one of their vehicles. If these stupid reporters only knew the truth, heh?

My clutch just went out at 19k and I am starting the process of shopping to see what a good clutch would be, In the next year I plan on taking to from everything stock to throwing a turbo, and all the fancy stuff in there to make it quick. Any input on a good clutch would be? I dont want to get something that will wear out as fast once i put the additional hp to it.

Exedy, ACT, and Spec make reputable clutches. Clutch Masters are supposed to be good but I have heard some grumblings on other vehicles. You want to stay with a sprung center hub as it is easier to used for DD. There is alot of different clutch facing materials and I am not exactly sure the pros and cons of each. You will want at a minimum of a Stage 2 upgrade. I have the Spec Stage 2+ that I have yet to install.

    Should be a good choice.

it's probably not even the clutch that's giving you the problems. might just be the shift linkages that came out of their housings (or whatever it's called) that's on the shifter assembly itself. just take the center console apart to get to the shifter base and if you see the cables loos, snap them back where they go and see if it fixes your problem.. ill post a pic of what im talking about in a bit..

Good point to check the couplings for the shifter cables. Probably not an issue on a shifter that has never been touched but a short-throw shifter or bushing mod may have allowed someone to not reinstall the couplings into the shifter base correctly. They can be a little difficult to maneuver into the correct orientation to turn-to-lock.
