    Default New Turbo/ Exhaust

I ordered a bolt on turbo kit (Stage 0) from ZPI on monday and the HKS Blowoff valve. I also ordered the custom 3" header back exhaust. Just wondering if anyone else has this setup or could give me some install tips. Also, once it is installed will take some video and pics for input.

Have you ever installed or tuned a turbo system before?

Some of my friends and fellow club members helped me with my GReddy install. While they are not the same kit, there will be similarities. The best advice I can give you is don't rush. Lay everything out, and identify all the parts on the list with what you have in the box. If you have a digital camera, take pictures of some of what you are taking apart prior to taking it apart so you can put it back together again. If you have a FM system, spend the extra time and money to get a better tune. I'm sure that whatever you get will have a base map, but they generally run very rich to be safe. Once done with the install, don't get too heavy with your foot right away, just to make sure that if there was some sort of issue, you can identify it before it does really bad things to your car. That's about all I can think of for now. Good luck with the install, enjoy your turbo, and welcome to the wonderful world of forced induction

My best advice is have a boost controller and fuel management. Set it to the lowest you can go with a rich condition and take it to a shop. Let a guy who knows what they are doing, tune it.... then you can break it in and play around.

This is actually my first turbo. Never installed one before. I have some friends with turbos who want to help so that shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if I need the engine management right away, as this is their stage 0 kit and the stage 1 will come with it when I upgrade later. On the site it states "All fuel and timing tuning already complete " and I am not sure if that is what you were talking about. These guys are Scion guys and should know what they are doing (I hope..). I am not going to go crazy with my driving right away anyways. I just want the extra power when I need a little stress relief..lol..Thanks for your posts and I'll let you know how it turns out. Good idea on the pictures though, if anything it will be insurance if something breaks.

I had the same questions, I called the guys up at ZPI and they were real helpful, according to the site, the stock clutch is fine for the stage 0. The stage 1 says eventually it will need to be replaced. Kenny told me to get the boost guage for monitoring purposes and the OEM header gasket for the install. I went ahead and purchased the custom 3" exhaust and the HKS BOV and Flange (if bought together they will weld the flange at their shop). After I install it I am going to take it to a local shop to have it tuned professionally since it is my first turbo and it is a brand new car. I don't want any problems to occur. As for the E-Manage and Boost controller, I will get when I upgrade to the stage 1 later on. I don't believe I will need it just yet for the stage 0. I will wait until the turbo is complete with the intercooler and such. That is all I can think of. Like I said, just call up ZPI and they can answer most of your questions.

How is the ZPI turbo working out for you? I have been looking at turbos for a month now trying to make the right decision. Does anyone have a prefference, ZPI Stage 0 or 1, or Greddy? I am planning on taking my car over to Louisville, KY (where ZPI is located) and leaving it for them to install. 2 days / $400. Cheaper than buying a new engine....

I am thinking the Stage 0 for now, Stage 1 is a little too $ for a starter turbo!
