Mid-Pipe

This is a discussion on Mid-Pipe within the Engine Performance forums, part of the Scion tC category; I have an Injen axle-back and want to upgrade with a mid-pipe. Which is the best? Which is the cheapest? ...

    Default Mid-Pipe

I have an Injen axle-back and want to upgrade with a mid-pipe. Which is the best? Which is the cheapest? I've been searching and see the Megan mid-pipe most often. What are your feelings about this one? Thanks! Peace!

the only one i know of is megan but i would reccomend a custom midpipe because if you eventually run headers your gonna have to start chopping that expensive midpipe up and puttin in resonators.

Check out Buschner Racing's midpipe. They used to make ZPIs for them but since ZPI shut down (thank god) they started selling it under their brand (after all they made it)

And before you rant about how Buschner screwed ZPI over.... ZPI wouldnt pay them for what they made, but wanted to get the parts on a rain check.

i read that axle backs do not get as much WHP as an cat back .. i don't kno how tru that is tho .. i don't really like the look or sound of an axle back anyway lol

the reason most people think axlebacks dont help as much as catbacks is because that big muffler people think it robs power. which it isnt as free flowing as like the catbacks but you could never tell the difference in performance wise.

whats the diff between a cat back and a axle back with a mid pipe? can you still pass emmisions with a mid pipe or do you still keep the cat converter?
i can get a magen mid pipe for cheap and was wondering if it is worth all the fuss is i cant pass emission if i get it.

Yup .. unlike me .. i don't hav a cat .. just a resonator .. i welded a check engine light eliminator on my header to relocate my o2 sensor .. works 100% no lights w/o customization or C.E.L approx. 99% of headers will trigger your check engine light
i plan on boosting next year so i'm going to sell it

You said it, not me, but I do concur. I would definately go the custom route on the mid-pipe. I took a ZPI mid-pipe as a trade for cash that ZPI owed me. The quality was sub par. ZPI claimed that it was farmed out. The pipe was good, but the hangers and flanges were far from the stainless steel. The welding was horrible. I had Jotech wack those off and use the pipe in my full custom exhaust. Not sure if it was from Buschner Racing.

ZPI's Spipe, Mid Pipe, and Exhaust were all made by BUSCHUR racing, of Mitsubishi fame.

    https://secure.buschurracing.com/cat...x.php?cPath=24

Alot of people got screwed becuase ZPI wouldnt pay Buschur racing for the parts they were making. So ZPI would say its a "problem with the manufactuer"....

But yea, ive never heard anyone say something good about any of the exhaust pieces theyve produce. Spipe has the o2 sensor in the wrong place, rust, just not up to par. Amazing considering Buschur name is holy in DSM worlds.

What shocks me is a little company called Draxas is the ONLY company ive seen that had a full Header to exhaust tip system for our cars, and they are STILL the ONLY company ive seen that had a high flow cat in their mid pipe from them, so your car could stay legal after changing to their Spipe.

There is honestly not alot of thought that goes into tC's from major companies to give us something truly worth having on the exhaust side.

oh wow now i see why ZPI gets all those bad reviews
I attend a lot of scion meets and a lot of people had a lot of negative things to say about ZPI
    - cheap products
    - false advertisment
    etc.
well no ZPI products for me

This was so true. ZPI blamed my 8 month wait on Kaminari for not producing my CF wing, even though, Kaminari said that the order was never placed. My TRD LSD that took nearly 6 months to get.

But yea, ive never heard anyone say something good about any of the exhaust pieces theyve produce. Spipe has the o2 sensor in the wrong place, rust, just not up to par.
I was very dismayed when I received that pipe. Really sloppy work on the welds that actually impeded exhaust flow. I put it up there with the overall quality and the R&D work of Meagan Racing. You just can't aluminize exhaust components. That is only good for looks on the shelf.

There is honestly not alot of thought that goes into tC's from major companies to give us something truly worth having on the exhaust side.
Sad, but true for us. My goal, my plan, and my passion is to change that. Hopefully soon, I start making this happen.
