Default Why does the Corolla XRS beat the tC?

i have been looking at vidoes on youtube and majority of the videos that involved a xrs and a tC race, the xrs won...and i also saw some xrs vs. celica gts vids and the xrs won as well...is it because of the VVTI-valve lift technology?.....i was just curious....

Hmm. Not aware of this. Must investigate. Discussion....

BTW> I read that the new Matrix and Corolla are going to share the 2AZ-FE for 2008.

Well, the XRS has the celica gt-s motor in it i beleive. But it always depends on the driver. No offense, but usually those races are lame because it's a stupid high-school kid (like me) who can't drive at all. My friend's tC with just a K&N drop-in filter and a muffler has taken out a type-s, and almost taken out another, as well. And the list goes on of other cars he shouldn't have beaten. That's all because he is a good driver. He was driving (a stick) when he was a freshman in high-school and he is like almost 20 now. And since the XRS isn't even close to the type-s, i think that my friends tC would spank an XRS. It all depends on the driver. A tC froma dig will destroy an XRS. But then again, the only reason that the XRS is as fast as it is, is because it weighs considerably less than the tC... But the reason the tC would win on a dig race is because of the torqueyness, just like him beating a type-s with 40 more hp stock

And yes, that's correct, the new corolla/matrix XRS' are using the same tC/camry engine. See, Toyota knows where the potential is. people always talking crap about the camry engine...

Yea i see what you guys are talking about....yea people do tell that the tC has a camry engine and that in stead i should have had a better one to begin with....there is a video on youtube where the xrs just has a cai, and a tC has I/H/E...and the xrs still one....but to be honest they didn't show their mods so you can't really say what they really had....well thanks for the responses....i'm planning to get a tC how ever since i want to tune the cars..what options should i stay away from when i get to the dealer....and which ones should i get....?....well thanks again

A caveat for the 2AZ-FE is that the more vehicles that Toyota puts this motor in, the more aftermarket support that we will receive. This is what I am counting on for my business, a bigger market. It would become the 350 Bow-tie block of Toyota with parts galore from a hundred different vendors.

Heck, Toyota may even bring back or create a new high performance platform that would be housed around the 2AZ-FE. That means factory performance parts for us finally! Could you imagine this motor in a new Celica GT-S??? That would be very exciting on a LW body. As for me, I am looking at installing the other Camry engine in a tC. No, not the hybrid engine, but that of the 268BHP 3.5L DOHC MPFI VVT-i 24-valve V6 engine. My Camry SE, with a software mod to the 6-speed autotrans would be one heck of a sleeper street-brawler. If only the manual shift mode actual worked worth a crap.

    Thumbs up

When will you be looking forward to do that engine swap? That sound great...that engine in the tC would make it a sleeper and a very tough contender out in the streets...good luck with that project...will you post up pictures or videos of it? It would be nice......

That project is atleast a year out for me to even think about starting. I have to get my business up and running first. It may not be that V6. What I am looking at is a mid-mount, RWD setup. I want a forward facing V6 but have to figure out what the transaxle is going to be.

I have heard the same. I believe it is a misunderstanding that some people have made. The Camry does have the 2AZ-FE has a powerplant, but the SE has a bigger 2GR-FE V-6. They are getting cross mojo-nation.

both the xrs and the celica gts have the 2zz motors. I would bet a ton of money that the celica driver couldnt land lift. The better driver wins most of the time.

When I bought my tC I test drove the new '09 Matrix and Corolla.

I tried out the Matrix S, and the Corolla XRS.

There's nothing special about the Matrix, the handling isn't my style at all, but the Corolla XRS certainly is impressive.

2.4 Liter displacement, and coming in an optional 6spd MT.

Did you say 6-speed Manual? You know what that means. It should be a direct fit to our blocks. Have to check out the tranny mount. If the gearing ratio is in the right range, sounds like a tranny swap is in the near future.

There is no 6-speed manual for the Corolla. A 5-speed manual and 5-speed auto asre the only tranny for the XRS performance trim with a slightly derated (???) 158WHP 2AZ-FE. The other models have a 1.8L motor with a 4-speed auto and a 5-speed manual as options. There is no 6-speed manual or auto for that matter. The same holds true for the Matrix S and XRS trims with the S trim having Front engine, All-Wheel Drive (AWD) with active torque control and a 4-speed auto.

For the tC, which one is correct, who knows. But the tC with the Matrix and the tC with the Corolla will be a close race. The Corolla should beat the Matrix. Gearing and traction will be the deciding factor.

    Default xrs and tc

obviously by the screen name i have a xrs 06 model and it actually performs very well. I myself bought the car for a four door aplication for a new child and found myself in shock with the cars agility and speed. Ive not been able to find someone with a tc to let me drive it and check out its capabilities. which in this case being very proud of my little car yes they are pretty quick and will surprise a lot of people with their little power plants. so i close with .......find one at a used car dealership and TEST DRIVE it . i'm not trying to brag on it and say its better at all so dont take this the wrong way like im bashing on the tc, but i just came across the forum and had seen the comparisons on the two. so if anyone wants to know with a good driver yes these cars are some to watch out for.

Does the Corolla XRS come with a fully independent rear suspension?

I just might trade it in.......

    Default ok ok ok

so you guys REALLY wanna know why the xrs beats the tc....I havent raced one yet but I will tell you this. Go on youtube and type in VVTL LIFT or Corolla XRS Lift....have you guys ever seen the variable valve timing lift actually in action? check it out ..this is why ive been asking is there anyway to modify the VVTI on our engines!! why does the VVTL act more like a VTec than than the VVTI ? Either way watch the videos, actaully check out celica lift too theres a buncha those . about 1k before redline you can see this "lift" in action. One dude has his tach change colors when he hits lift. The TC community is missing out on this "lift" somewhere on here I read that our "lift" is around 2-4k in ? I WANT IT AT 5K!!!! THEN I GARUNTEE IT IL SMOKE ANY XRS OR CELICA OUT THERE! lol let me calm down. this is what i had to say anyone can comment it and please do. i just woke up so excuse the bad typing. let me know what yall think cause all these cars are in the same class and have the same engine pretty much its just the technology inside of the engine that counts! navy say something smart cuz I cant think of any big words right now that would describe the vvti in our engines compared to the vvtl in the others. blahhhhh im out
