    Default hks vs greddy

    k. so well i was looking to buy a exhaust for my car. i like the way the greddy sounds but i like the way the HKS sounds. but performance wise is it really worth my money?

    another question.. i keep loooking everywhere and it keeps saying the HKS exhaust is from the axle back. what does this mean? is there a mid pipe i also need to purchase???

    i am going to be purchasing DC Sport headers. Would the DC headers with the HKS axle back exhaust be a good set up or will i just have to end up buying an s-pipe to my axle back HKS?

    Unless you're producing high amounts of exhaust output, generally with a F/I set up, the modification of the naturally aspirated tC yields little results.

    People here are recommending the axle-back exhaust system simply because, unless you're running F/I or a custom N/A set up, your car will not be generating the power necessary to make after market exhaust modifications significantly necessary.

    The axle-back exhaust system is simply an exhaust system that replaces the rear section of your exhaust system, from the rear axle back to the muffler. Your car's stock mid-pipe and s-pipe will remain unaffected. Since you're not going to be yielding significant gains from a full exhaust system yet, having a simple axle-back system to suit your preference in sound is more budget friendly.

    Most cat-back systems will come with a OEM replacement mid-pipe. This exhaust system replaces all pipes from the final catalytic converter, back to the muffler tip.

    Headers, for the most part, are most useful when you're nit picky about where performance is important to you on the power band. Modifying, restricting, or balance the exhaust pressure from the exhaust manifold is crucial in allocating your car's torque band. Headers and exhaust will not get you any significant power gains. It's (unfortunately) that simple.

    With an axle-back exhaust, the addition of new headers should chance the sound of your exhaust slightly. Although you eliminate a cat, the sound and exhaust still has to flow through the restrictice OEM S-pipe and Mid-pipe.

    If you're looking for a significant change in sound, replacing all parts of the exhaust system will get you the change you desire.

    Here is the exhaust components flowing from the exhaust manifold to the muffler.

    Headers --> S-Pipe --> Mid-Pipe --> [Cat-Back] or OEM exhaust.

    I have that setup; DC sports (ceramic), Jotech custom 2.5" SS from header all the way back to the HKS with (2) Top Speed 12" resonators. Good idle but around 4K at 75%+ throttle gives a loud rattle sound. This is self induced by the mistake of running two equal length can resonators. Loud drone doing 80MPH on the highway.

    Before it was DC Sports with ZPI s-pipe, OEM midpipe, and TRD axle-back. Same as above but with rattle only at WOT at any RPM over 3~3.5K. Removed the OEM mid-pipe for an open 2.5" pipe and it was deafening.

    As for the HP between the Greddy and HKS, if there is a difference, it will be negligible. This is a schematic of the exhaust.

    An axle-back is just that, any exhaust component that couples (connects) at the axle. It can be just a muffler or combination with a resonator on some cars.

    what ever you do don't get a fart can exhaust because thats what it will sound like. i have the greddy axel back and i love the deep tone but i ordered a megan header so i am under the impression that i will be getting a little rasp out of it now.
    run it hard but run it right.
