Doing this willl hurt your tansmission because your having it at a higher rpm which puts more stress on the transmission. The reason why you feel like it is faster is because the rpm is so high. Also you don't have to take your foot off the gas when you switch gears. I would not do this to much because overtime you will get tranmission problems because your taking life away from it.

yes and no... i do a lot of mountain racing and street.. i have AT w/ FI and i have upgraded my tranny(larger gears and stronger metal) to sustain the shifting.. just have to pitch the shift right before redline.. tanny wont hurt.. but for everyday driving it isn't smart to shift constant.
373 whp and im a AT! hehe! nom nom

Yep, stock auto trans in any platform do not handle abuse well. My first car was a 1979 Mercury Capri (Fox Body Mustang) with an anemic 88bhp, 1-barrel carbureted 2.3L with a sluggish C-3 slush box on a 2.73:1 live axle. The car would strain to max out at 108MPH. In an effort to "boost" peformance, all the go fast goodies at the time (budget) were available; A/C compressor v-belt delete, air cleaner assembly removed, all vacuum lines plugged, hotter plugs, and octane boost on 93 octane pump gas were used.

Even with this mega increase in power, performance off the line suffered so I adopted a new strategy; auto trans gear drop. Just pop the shifter to neutral, rev the motor to about 4K RPM, then drop it to L (1st gear). I could actually get that 2,800lbs car to spin it's one bald 70 series tire! Yes, I had invented the tiptronic shifting. Much to my suprise, I had also invented a method for taking those pesky little bolt holes on the flywheel that connect it to the torque converter and make beautiful long slots out of them. Sweet!

Moral of the story: OEM autos are meant for MPG, convenience, and smooth shifting. Performance is an after thought in a slush box, therefore, it must be adapted to better suit those needs thru modifications and parts upgrades.
    How Fast Was I Going?
