Doing this willl hurt your tansmission because your having it at a higher rpm which puts more stress on the transmission. The reason why you feel like it is faster is because the rpm is so high. Also you don't have to take your foot off the gas when you switch gears. I would not do this to much because overtime you will get tranmission problems because your taking life away from it.

Yep, stock auto trans in any platform do not handle abuse well. My first car was a 1979 Mercury Capri (Fox Body Mustang) with an anemic 88bhp, 1-barrel carbureted 2.3L with a sluggish C-3 slush box on a 2.73:1 live axle. The car would strain to max out at 108MPH. In an effort to "boost" peformance, all the go fast goodies at the time (budget) were available; A/C compressor v-belt delete, air cleaner assembly removed, all vacuum lines plugged, hotter plugs, and octane boost on 93 octane pump gas were used.
