after installing my turbo i was told to get an FMU, and before i installed it i was told to get an ECU. Do i need both or will one do the job?

This is a discussion on which one do i need within the Engine Performance forums, part of the Scion tC category; after installing my turbo i was told to get an FMU, and before i installed it i was told to ...
after installing my turbo i was told to get an FMU, and before i installed it i was told to get an ECU. Do i need both or will one do the job?
Just to clarify what this person meant, we need to define the verbage.
FMU (Fuel Management Unit) - Piggyback computer.
ECU (Engine Control Unit) - Stand Alone computer.
If this is the case, all you need is the FMU. If you want full control and added features, then a Stand Alone is what you need. It, howeve, costs way more than a piggyback and requires professional tuning.

I think he means a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Often referd to as FMU's in kits that use that method for fuel enrichment.
i would go for the stand alone it may require more work but it would be worth it in the end

i talked to a guy who owns a performance shop in fountain valley, CA. called HB speed real nice place, he said the AEM F/IC is the best way to go and the safest for the tc, he never actually worked on one but he said it looks like it would be fun.
