so like i woke up and walked to my car to find a big ass dent on the hood, someone ran into my car while i was sleeping. The hood was the worst part pretty much, altough the bumper does have damage and the fender was very slightly bent. I have full coverage insurance so I called the cops got a case number and filed a claim with the insurance company. I came to the conclusion that I am going to buy a CF hood with the money they give me, I found a oem hood for $350 @ jdmcarbody.com.

Im going to do all the work my self .. There looks like theres about atleast 1k+ in damage. Ive never had to file a claim before, but I know theres 2 options. You can let the insurance company have it fixed or you can take a check and have it fixed your self. I wwant the check and im hoping that the amount to repair it is high cause I've got a $500 deductable...So like I was wondering how hard it is to install a hood? What do you all think I should do? Let them repair it or take the money and buy a cf hood and fix the rest my self ( wich im sure i can do )

but on topic... i thought that if u went thru ur insurance company, they give you the check based on the price of the repair. then, it has to be repaired by who ever is gonna repair it.

when i had to replace my door (dont ask), i was given a check based on the estimate by the toyota body shop and the insurance rep. i dont know if i had a choice for anything else

i wake up 2-3 o'clock in the a.m. to put it in the driveway at times even tho i hav to b up by 6 for work lol .. i dnt wanna take any chances

sorry to hear that beyond i know what that is like because before i had the tC i had a dodge pickup and i woke up to go to work early in the morning only to find nothing in my driveway and then i called the cops and they found it completly trashed but i hope you get that CF hood because it would look really good lol

About the check, i got a check for 3000.84 to have someone else repair the damaged parts. (It was the rear Quarter panel.) Then they checked to see if it was repaired after they gave us the check.

So basically you have 2 options.
1: The insurance repairs it.
2: You find someone (must be certified) to repair the damaged parts, and use the check to pay off.(or you pocket) Then they check.

Although im not entirely sure they will let you repair it yourself.

dude talk about bad luck ....i let my girlfriend go to the gas station that likes 5 minutes from my house and she crashed into a small fence. One of those fences that people use to hold cattle and **** like that...yeea I was kinda pissed because my whole bumper was like tucked under the car after I just fixed it ! I did all the repairs my self and now 2 days later looked at it in shambles. So I took off the front bumper, right at the scene and threw it in my truck, got in the car and drove it home.

Theres like this cool mechanism in the tc that Ive never seen before. As I got out the car I noticed the chime sound, something you would only here when you left the keys in the ignition. It would not let me use my keyless entry to lock or unlock, and I couldnt lock the car at all! Everytime I hit the lock button or switched the locks manually they would pop right back open and Im like WTF!!! Next I start the car and notice the check engine light is on.. I turn off the car hold down the tach and turn the key on to try to reset it and it said like SYS OK or something. Doors locked and everything worked fine, I guess its like there so if someone crashes, the doors cannot lock up on the people that come to rescue them. Awesome feature, cant imagine how many lives it would/has saved.


Ok now to the damage part.. The front bumper, I just threw that away, the styrofoam peice behind it I still have. The front frame that runs horizontal is slighty bent inward on the left. The left fender has a dent about the size of a softball and thats it..No radiator damage, no scratches, nothing Oh and the hood still has the dent from the first accident.

Dont let girls drive your car, no matter how smart they may appear! lol Im just glad my babys ok ( my tc that is )

The car is going to be repaired by a shop and come back twice as fresh!!!!

If you think you have bad luck, I'm sure you'd cry if you knew everything that has happened to my poor tC since April of this year (I bought her then). At any rate, I would just let a body shop take care of it all. Insurance is annoying to deal with. When I had to take my baby in to be fixed, they asked me how I wanted her fixed, what kind of parts, and how I wanted her to look. If the place you're looking at is anything like that, do as you wish. They offered me a Carbon Fiber hood but I said I wanted my car stock. Good luck!

My insurance dosent give me a choice, I either give it a "certified" bodyshop to be fixed or they send a check to the company Im getting the part from for it to be fixed, and it has to be OEM. Which means they send the check straight to the company, then the rep comes out to check it out...its strict, but my premium is low and the company has the the bes customer service of any business I have ever used.

That's kinda crappy. I hate insurance but sadly, you can't live without it. What insurance is that? I've had all sorts of random insurance and never been denied any body shop or how I want my car fixed. I guess I should avoid whatever insurance that is ;]

Some insurance companies will only pay for non-OEM parts which are usually inferior in quality. Always demand OEM parts, tis nothing better.

My insurance tried that since I demanded to go to one of their "not preferred" body shops. I told them "Um, it's MY car and I pay YOU for a reason, you do what I want and my car is going to a SCION preferred body shop named Mr. Spoiler, you guys can shove it and pay for my damn car to be fixed the way I want it and WHERE I want it. Not my fault some idiot hit me!!!!" So I got what I wanted ... The parts they tried to stick on my car were some random whacko parts that the owner of the shop said would void my warranty so we fought tooth and nail to get what OEM parts. Damn insurance.

I had a claims adjuster request OEM parts and the insurance company paid for that. They would not give me a list of reputable shops so I was fed to the wolves. I specified to the body shop that I only want OEM parts and they agreed. In the end, the SOB took me for a ride as my car had the wrong hood and cheap parts. Some parts where full of bondo, did not fit, and the windshield failed. In Texas you are just screwed thanks to the Mechanics Lien Law.
