Are you asking about a subtle intake/exhaust that is not readily noticible from outside the car or one that would pass Cali visual inspections? Any catback that does not contain a catalytic converter will not pass a visual inspection under the car. Any SRI or CAI is going to look the same under the hood. The CAI intake is said to be louder outside the car though. If you are needing to keep the OEM look, the TRD S/C kit contains a modified OEM filter box designed to flow more air, along with, the TRD filter element.

Great post NAvy,
But I would like to also add some more input. K&N has designed a CARB approved intake box for TCs. IT basically utilizes the factory tubing but includes a new lower portion intake box that is said to be less restrictive. We have this intake on our website. A perfect sleeper axleback I could think of would be the Tanabe Medallion Touring. We went catless with only a short resonator and a 4-2-1 header and the TC still sounded near stock. If you get any axle-back you should be fine in CA. Its when you put in a aftermarket header or remove your catalytic converters is when you have to worry.

All this CARB crap makes me happy to live in Texas and in a city the the EPA hasn't tried screwing yet(San Antonio). It is also why my Tc will stay stock while I buy a sports car (240z, first second gen supra, first second gen rx7) older than 30 years so I can do what ever I want and have an vehicle exempt for emissions laws.
Viva la Tejas! Don't worry too much. Al Gorp and company will be coming after that grandfather clause.

I know. I also know that the 240z is the only one older than 30 years, except very few for the first gen rx7's and supras, forgot how to count for a second. With any luck our in operable legislator will keep anything from changing (federal and state).
