This is a discussion on New Toys: 6-Speed Manual Trans and 2.5L 2AR-FE within the Engine Performance forums, part of the Scion tC category; alright, would it be very expensive to try and do the AWD from the euro platform?...

Yes. You would need a donor car for starts as buying the powertrain from the Toyota parts bin would be extremely expensive. Then there are the integration issues such as mounting, fitment, and interfacing. Remember that the Avensis is what the tC is modeled loosely from. It was mainly the concept of design and not the actual vehicle that the Toyo wrench heads copied. Very little, if any parts would directly translate over to the tC. The Rav4 is only offered as an automatic AWD platform that does not have the right ratios that would benefit road racing. Heck, a true 4x4 enthusiast will not even think about owning an AWD SUV. To them, it is just not the same.

Well, that powertrain sits in the 2011 Gen2 tC, along with a 6-speed auto.
