    Default 06 TC Steering problem

Hey guys I'm new to the forum. Was hoping some of you can help me out with something... I'm about to buy a 06 TC (14k miles) and it has a couple problems I noticed. See what you guys think..

The most serious problem I noticed is that the steering wheel is very hard to turn at first, but after putting some force into it, it gets soft (how it should be normally). When I go to turn it in the other direction, same thing happens. It doesn't get better as the car is running longer and warms up. Feels as if the car has a flat tire or something at first then gets fine for the rest of the turn... very weird...

other than that, the car shakes a bit when it's idle... and also, there is a leak on the passenger side, coming out of under the glove compartment. I think it may be the a/c condenser that may be clogged or something.

    Anyone have any ideas???

check your fluid level. sounds like the power steering fluid may be low. there is also the possibility that there may be air entrained (trapped) in the system. after checking fluid level, turn steering wheel all the way to the left or right and hold for a couple of seconds. repeat for opposite side. do this a couple of times then repeat entire process with the engine running. easier donewith front wheels off the ground on jack stands for safety. if this does not resolve it, then have a dealership look at it.

are there any mil codes? the power steering vane pump has a pressure sensor as this system is variable assist. this will require a trip to the dealership. with 14k miles it is under warranty no matter who owns it. if our buying this car, have current owner take it in.

there's a saying about buying someone else's problems.. (safe to assume the car is a used one, yah?)

how much are you getting it for? most times it's better just to spend the little extra money and buy a brand new vehicle.
    LEDs.... yay!

i agree with u there... however, i'm getting a ridiculous deal on this one... like i said, it's a 2006, 14k miles, for $4k... i doubt that deal can be beat... and i believe it had been crashed before, on the side, but was rebuilt... that's the only bad thing really... other than that, the car seems to be in great shape...

suggest that you take to a frame shop or dealership for an inspection before you commit. it will cost you a lil money but best to know what issues that the car actually has. check the tires for abnormal wear. large amount of tC's that have been in an accident were in the front.
