    Question SLR Chip?

Has Anyone heard of or heard anything about this SLR motorsports performance chip? I have a pretty good idea that its completely garbage but i wanted to see if there was any credible witness to the sham. idk, ive always had a rule of thumb, that if its less than 100 it doesn't work as advertised!

I just did a quick search and found some interesting results. The bottom line......junk. It's all bull. I believe that you get what you pay for. If you buy that thing, I will disown you and never talk to you again LOL

Let me preface this by saying this is of no slight to you Eron_cam. I realized after I wrote this cynical reply that it could come off making you feel bad about asking. By no means am I inferring that. Your instincts were right. You did the right thing by asking for clarification from other owners about this product. That is why this forum and its members are here, to help others by sharing ideals and the love for tCs and Scions that make this car so great.

The "chip" in question is SCION TC 2005-2008 . Can we say, "Look Ma what I are can do wit dat photershoppy. I made me self a potatoe chip!". Kidding aside, let's break this puppy down.
    1. What IC chip installs with quick disconnects, butt splices, velcro, and zip ties? Come on. Where is the spit and bailing wire?
    2. There are no instructions listed or for download.
    3. Picture is of generic IC (intergrated circuit) chips that have a logo Photoshop'd on what one of them looks like a 555 Timer circuit.
    4. This "chip" is does everything and is so wonderful that Billy Mays out to sell it with his Oxi-Clean. What ever you can think of, it can do it better.
    5. One claim is an upfront 50HP gain. Wow, that IS amazing. I mean a set of BC Stage II cams won't even make that much power.
    6. Oh wait. There is this blurb at the bottom of their webpage. I direct quote, "*All HP and Torque gains are estimates based on engine size and any other performance modifications you already might have. We guarantee the gains we have listed or your money back. MPG gains are estimated and may vary depending on driving style and/or city/highway MPG." Oh, you mean that 50 extra ponies is based on the size of my engine and what mods that I have? Can ya please give me a list of parts for my 427 Super CobraJet engine so that I too can 50 glorious extra horsepower?
    7. Hey, where's my free Turbonator for acting now?
    8. This product is so awesome that it is the only item they sell and it fits just about every vehicle on the planet.

Let's look at the cold hard facts, Toyota encrypts all of it's late model ECMs (Engine Control Module) extremely well. So good that nobody has cracked it yet that I know of. If they did, Toyota Lawyers would be grilling their arses on the hibachi. There is another, more physical reason that refutes the product claims of this company. That is there is no socket nor plug to install this chip into the ECM as you can see from the pics of a 2006 Scion tC ECM.

In conclusion, this product is probably nothing more than a package of resistors. The product description, generic claims, lack of instructions, generic picture, and the FAQ section pretty much confirms this. This is nothing more than adding a resistor to change the value of the air intake temp sensor to make the ECM think that the engine is receiving colder, denser air and adding timing and/or fuel trims like this product; Aftermarket Performance Cold Air Intake Electric Supercharger Turbo Chip Exhaust Gas Fuel Saver
Of course, this can lead you into an overly lean condition which is why there FAQ states not for Forced Induction engines. Those engines can already lean and it would cause detonation.

Now, you can grab your wooden nickels and get in line for DR. Love's Snake Oil Elixir or save your hard earn money for an actual piggyback controller that is going to be useful once your to a point that you need it. So far, Blitz is the only company that has a product, besides a piggyback controller, that will alter vehicle performance on Scion/Toyota's drive-by-wire system and its only $420.00 USD; Throttle Controller : Blitz, Power Site I have not verified that this product does actually work on the tC DBW and to what degree but they do state that it specifically fits the tC.

Note: This is just my humble opinion and not that of Club-tC.Com, Scion, or anyone with sanity.

Yeah, trust us, it's all bogus claims. I made the mistake of falling for one of these things on my old Saturn. They claimed 10+ horsepower and I don't remember the figure for the gas mileage. I bought it off of eBay for like $5. It came in the mail in just an envelope with a single page printout with installation instructions. It was a small resistor with a wire at each end. The instructions say to plug each wire into both holes on the MAF. I did so and the results were nothing but a check engine light. Wish I knew then what I know now...
