    Default car rivalry

The story is, my cuz has a Mini Cooper S, that he basically thinks is the savior of all cars. Mini this Mini that ect. Well because for the duration of my driving experience ive been driving a 73' MG-B i really haven't been able to say anything. BUT because ive gotten a very hefty college scholarship, my parents said that if i proved myself in my freshman year they would buy me a Tc, and i want it to stomp that lil mini.

A mini cooper S comes stock with a super charger and a 0-60 time of 7.2

A tC with a super charger has the same 0-60 time so im thinking this could be a healthy competition.

So far from reading ive gathered i should get a cold air intake, because of my reading and because that is the only mod he has.
i think i like this one, blue is a theme i want (college colors blue and white)

    K&N 69-8607TB $299.99 - 69 Series Typhoon Kits, Performance Intake Kit

i want to keep it rather inexpensive and just want to really beat him in short distances, mainly acceleration. The only thing he'll have me on is 600lbs less. So what other things would be helpful.

I was looking at headers but then someone said they make it raspy sounding and i DO NOT WANT A RICER/WEEDWACKER

Wheels have also been something ive been thinking about is around 20lbs good? and how big of a difference does it make? in cycling i know it makes a ton to reduce rotating mass.

I've been doing a healthy amount of reading and understand most general concepts about cars but am really hoping to learn more please help

Sorry for the delay, but here is your answer.

    1. The Stock 17" wheels are fairly light so need to change them out for uber expensive lighter ones.

    2. If your launching from a dig, then you need to invest in stickier tires. If you are cashed strapped, you can just start with the fronts and replace the rears after you race.

    3. The header will net you the most power increase. With no other exhaust mod, you will not be getting raspy. Changing the axle-back is when this will occur. This is resolved with an upgraded resonator. The stock one is too small to handle the increased flow.

    4. A LW crank pulley does wonders for spinning up the RPMs quicker. You will notice the crank most difference with these easy and affordable mod. Be forewarned though, as you will be hitting the 1st gear redline much quicker. Without added traction, you will be "da-da-da-da-screech" as you slam into 2nd. Better get some stick time with this mod before you race.

    5. If you already have the TRD S/C, then your only current option is the SRI from Weapon R.

    6. NST and a few other companies make smaller S/C pullies to up your boost to 9.5PSI.

    7. Put your tC on a Diet can be the biggest performance gain on a budget.

Not trying to be a smarta$$ here Navy, but it looks like you made a contradictory statement.

I believe you meant to say "so no need to change them".
