    ^ True that.

If I see them pull up in a Z or Evo, then it's understandable why they would say something about my tC. I mean... hell... if I had one of those rides, I would probably be a pompous idiot too.

But it is hilarious when you have some highschooler in his p.o.s automatic Mustang V6 try to jabber jaw. Only thing there is to do is laugh at him while he's in your rearview mirror.

Yeah, but I'd wager those fast 1/4 mile cars don't have the FACTORY auto tranny, or they wouldn't be fast lol. They are called "slushboxes" for a reason.

    Therefore, manual wtfpwns auto.

So autos are more "common" in drag racing because of the possibility of missing a gear. But does that mean they are also "better" for drag racing? I mean, let's say you didn't slip or miss a gear shift?

Yeah... we did kinda jack this thread... sorry OP. I have just never heard people say autos were faster/consistent/better at shifting for drag racing over manuals. So I was wondering the reasoning. Then again, I'm sure you guys know better then I do since I've never laid tread on a quarter mile track before lol.

When in a 5 speed there is no way around it, you have to push the clutch in to shift. In Forced induction cars, they are able to stay at full boost through the shift which means a faster time. Ad as someone else said, yes factory auto transmissions do suck, but so the factory clutches in manuals.

When the 300Z turbo came out, people were wondering why in an auto. Simply put an auto does not let off the throttle for shifting, a manual does. This equates loss in exhaust pressure that in turn spins the turbo less for less boost. Also, you can accurately dial-in an auto at the dragstrip with repeatable results. Trans-brakes, stall convertors, shift point kits, and auto-shifters are some of the gadgets used. With a manual (unless it is a clutch-less gear shift) Lenco trans If you are using a Lenco Transmission, do you use a typical clutch? - Yahoo! Answers. With a traditional manual, it is all based on the driver and getting repeatable results to dial-in your bracket may be difficult.

auto has its benefits... I will not get into details ... but now i have a manual Tc so its not as easy as it once was on long trips.

One of the major reasons i picked to manual Trans is for the 5th gear, i wanted to save on gas because i take long trips all the time. You think it was worth it in terms of gas to stick to stick?

Oh BTW you can shift gears without hitting the clutch, I am pretty sure its damaging, but at the right RPM it goes into gear smoothly ( I am not responsible for damage cause to a trans )

Yeah, I've done it. The pros do not outweight the cons in our cars.
