when your cel (check engine light) comes on you need to get it checked out either at the dealer of any shop. you can also go to auto zone and retreive code. all you need to do is go inside and ask them if you can get your cel checked out. let me know shat code appears.
thanks bro. the light actually went off today. took a few days for it to clear itself. the oil level was low so i changed the oil and it's all good now.
Hey I had the same issue like earlier this week, I checked out my oil and it was low also, but than when i started my car up the light went off. Not sure I went to Auto Zone and got it diagnosed and they said that I had CamShaft issues. They gave me the codes, but I dont have them on me. When I get them I'll put them up.
Bad gas or too much water content in your gas can throw a CEL. If it is off now, have Autozone scan it for any pending codes then have the codes reset. I am concerned that both of you had low oil as in the 2AZ-FE is a reliable, tight tolerant motor that tends no to leak or burn oil. Are you boosted? Maybe you oil feed lines may have seeps or leaks.

well that and low oil shouldn't trip the CEL light.. that i know of anyway... and adding oil wouldn't make it go away either..
more common stupid things that causes the CEL light to turn on would be a loose gas cap... but really the only way to really know what the vehicle is trying to tell you would be to pull the codes.
LEDs.... yay!

Got the paper that Auto Zone gave me and heres what it says.....TROUBLESHOOTING CODE P0011 "THE PCM HAS DETERMINED THAT THE VOLTAGE SIGNAL FROM CAMSHAFT A POSITION SENSOR IN BANK 1 INDICATES INADEQUATE PERFORMANCE OR A TIMING OVER ADVANCED CONDITION. (BANK 1 IDENTIFIES THE LOCATION OF CYLINDER #1, WHILE BANK 2 IDENTIFIES THE CYLINDERS ON THE OPPOSITE BANK) and it says that probable causes could be..............1-BLOCKED OIL PASSAGE, 2-MECHANICAL TIMING FAULT, 3-FAILED OCV, 4-VVT CONTROLLER ASSEMBLY FAULT. My car is still under warranty and everything under the hood is stock, so if any of these are the cause than it should be covered under warranty, right?
Low oil and that code makes sense. The VVT-i system advances/retards timing on the intake cam via an oil control passage. Oil starvation caused by low oil could have damaged the oil control valve. This needs to be diagnosed further by the dealership. It should be under warranty.
The issue that needs to be addressed is what caused your low oil condition? Did you recently have an oil change; not filled properly or drain plug leaking? If so, the dealership is probably going to stick you. It could be a failed gasket/seal which would be under warranty.
I had a 93 Mercury Sable that would freak out if it ever got gas with alot of water content. The motor would surge and at a stop, the car wanted to take-off. The CEL would come on. A bottle Heet and another tank of good gas and the problem would magically go away.
