legal headers

This is a discussion on legal headers within the Engine Performance forums, part of the Scion tC category; I'm sorry if this is a repeat but I could not find a thread about legal headers. I've read some ...

    Default legal headers

I'm sorry if this is a repeat but I could not find a thread about legal headers. I've read some threads that allude to their existence but not really mention any.

Anyways here are my questions. Are there any headers that do not eliminate the 1st catalytic converter? If so, who makes them and are they good quality? Or maybe someone makes a header system with a cat?

What if I installed the Weapon R header without installing the S-pipe? Would that leave the cat intact? Just where exactly is the 1st cat located anyways? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could be wrong, but I believe the first cat is attached to the factory header. So if you take out the stock header, you are taking out the first cat as well.

To the best of my knowledge, I have never heard of an aftermarket header that keeps the first cat intact.

Cribbs is correct, there are currently no headers on the market that retain the primary cat.

Ok let me get this straight. So the 1st cat is not detachable from the stock header? Well, if I leave the stock header and change out the S-pipe and the stock exhaust, will I still see a performance gain?

It may be detachable, but I'm not 100% sure. I've never really looked all that close to it. If you leave the stock headers and replace everything else, you will see minimal gains.

How minimal would you say the gains would be?

VERY minimal. Maybe a couple of HP.

you get gains for sure.. but it's still semi decent.

and no, the primary cat is on the stock header.. not removable.
(unless you take a cutting torch and cut the sucker off)
