Default First addition to my new car. help?

I am in the military..never really could afford a car before now. So i never really got into tuning etc. a few of my friends know alot about it but i was stationed across the states from them. (ft. lewis, WA) now.

first off i want to say i am pretty illiterate when it comes to cars but i have been reading around this site a little bit. so i kinda have an idea where to start.

    ive heard
    - pullies
    - cams
    etc.

but i want to turbo my car in about 15 months from now and i want to do it the right way.

so ima do it right the first time...

what should i look into to start off? im wanting to spend around 2000$ tops to start off and see where that takes me.

    thx!

Depends on what you want to go for. Performance? Visual? Electronics? ETC...

If you're going for performance, a good, easy, and relatively inexpensive start that also makes a noticeable difference is a performance header and exhaust. Allows the car to breathe way better. In my own experience with my TC, this was the most simple add on that I got the most bag for my buck on.

You can find both parts with a budget of around $700-$800 (give or take, depending on brand and budget willing to spend). Labor on this is pretty easy and can be done with the help of a friend and a full day or so. Or you can pay someone to do it, but it's pretty simple.

A lot of people start with a cold air intake as well. Throw that on with a header and exhaust and your car will breathe much better.

Other relatively cheap things you can do are suspension, lowering springs, short shifter, front and rear sway. Stuff like that.

Short shift is very simple. You 're not replacing much. It's just the plastic casing your shifter attaches to and can be done yourself very easily. I hve the TRD one, but I know there are other ones out there that have a shorter throw.

If you're doing pulleys, Non Stop Tuning is a proven brand and they have some great pulley kits for the TC. You won't see much noticeable difference with the pulleys alone though. They make such a small difference, but every little bit will eventually add up, especially when you get to either a supercharger or turbo.

Depending on what pulleys you're doing, you'll need to replace the appropriate belt as well. This is another reason NST is my suggestion. They can not only sell you the appropriate belt, but if you tell them what pulleys you're replacing they will guide you on what belt you need. See this link:

NST - The Leader In Scion tC Pulleys

Honestly though, if you want some power you should do intake, header and exhaust. This is well within your budget and you will see a noticeable improvement.

    Brands on those:
Injen, AEM for cold air intake.
DC sports or Weapon R make the best header for the TC.
Exhaust, depends if you put a header on. If you do, you should replace the whole exhaust otherwise it will sound like $hit and you won't maximize power. Brands: Magnaflow, Injen, Borla, Greddy, HKS, DC...

Not all of those brands make a cat back. Some do, some don't.

I wouldn't go with a header if your getting a turbo.

Your best be for an exhaust is a custom 3 inch... but if you dont feel like spending the $ for a custom one get the 3 inch p tuning

    Springs go with tein h-techs
Sway bars go with progress rear or Hotchkis Front and rear
Short throw i would do doctor isotope
Nice lightweight rims and sticky tires too

Another Military Brethren joins the Scion Community. Army I take it. Atleast your Stateside to enjoy your ride. We have Members on here that have only seen pics of their tC's.

Since you have declared yourself new at understanding performance parts, here are the nuts and bolts of it. There are two main groups for performance parts; 1)Bolt-ons 2)Machined. Of these two groups there are three distinct groups; 1)Power-adders 2)Power reclaimers 3)Bogus parts.
    • Bolt-ons: Turbo (waster heat), S/C, Intakes, Pullies, Exhaust, Piggybacks, Ignitions, etc.
    • Machined: Cams, Upgraded Valvetrain, Sleeved Blocks, Pistions, Stroker Cranks, Port-n-Polish, etc.
    • Power-adders: Camshafts, Higher Compression Pistons, S/C, Intake Manifolds, Stroker Kits, NO2, H2O/Meth Injection, Larger Fuel Injectors, Club-tC Decal, etc.
    • Power Reclaimers: Turbos, LW pullies, Knife-edged Cranks, LW Pistons, CAI/SRI, Exhausts, FMIC, Piggybacks, etc.
    • Bogus: Turbonator, "Chip", Nology Wires, Octane Boosters, Pulsating Spark Plugs, Hydrogen Fuel Kits, Twisted TB Spacers, etc.

Don't be quick to jump on underdriven LW crank pullies if you plan on having a high amperage draw stereo, neon, HIDs, or make frequent short trips (less than 15mins). You make find yourself with an overloaded alternator and a battery that never charges fully. You can underdrive the crank pulley and overdrive the alternator pulley at the same time to alleviate this problem thanks to NST. Gotta love companies that build parts that are usable, effective, solid, cost-effective, and look good.

The turbine of the turbo uses the waste heat energy from the engine to spin the impeller shaft of the compressor to create boost. Beyond the turbo housing, the actual moving parts are not mechanically connected to the rotating assembly. It, therefore, does not take or make power from the rotating assembly such as a camshaft, larger valves, supercharger, etc. This is straight up waste energy reclamation. This means your Eco Friendly. Al Gorp would be proud!
