at autozone they sell intake parts so you can custom make a intake anyway you want.so i got some pieces and made a short ram for now but my cel has come on. i kno it has to deal with the intake cause i have removed it and put the stock air box back on and it goes away.it doesn't come right back on right away after a couple of miles it does.for those couple of miles it runs great but once the cel comes on the car just dont run right. how can i get rid of the cel ??? |

It's your MAF sensor.
Disconnect the MAF sensor then disconnect the battery. Turn the key and let it sit about 5 minutes or so. Then reconnect the MAF sensor then the battery. This should fix the problem assuming all hose are connected tight. Worse case is get a scanner and erase the code and you won't see the CEL anymore. |

Did you install the MAF in the wrong direction? Plug should be to the rear.

did you disconnect the negative when you were swapping the intakes? Did you also let it idle for about 5 minutes?

its because the air sensor is not properly seated and there is extra air being sucked in from the sides of where the sensor sits.try to tape the sensor with sum electrical tape where it connects with the pipe. u don't have that problem with the stock intake box because the sensor is seated well on it. also when u disconnect the battery to reset the ecu disconnect the negative and leave it off for at least a minute. i had a generic intake pipe where i couldn't get the sensor properly seated and i had the same problem. after i got another pipe it was fixed.

Sounds like good advice. The Spectre unit from Autozone came with o-rings.

Make sure that none of the MAF sensors casing isn't bent, dinged, or notched or the sensor itself hasn't been touched either... you'll have to spend a bit more money if that happens.

tried the electrical tape thing and it didn't work. the mass is fine because i can put the old intake on and the check engine light goes off

i have heard of other tc's use the parts from autozone and it doesn't work. on all other cars they have been working. i work there and someone there that has a 06 cobolt ss (not supercharged) use a dremel to make his mass fit and he has no codes. i just dont know y it doesn't work . it is not the fact that the light is on but when u drive the car it blows.someone did tell me yesturday that he heard u have to go to scion to have the computer re-flashed

You know what... we might be thinking too much on this subject. Try turning the MAF itself, it may not be facing the right direction to accurately sense the air speed, condition, and temperature.
Turn it around the piping or something first before you call it quits. It's forcing more air, but I don't think the intake is so great that you'll need a reflash. If that fails, then it might be a good idea to ask Scion what their thoughts are on this subject. |

ZPI was having some cal problems with a CAI for the TRD. The problem, they determined, was the distance of the MAF sensor in relation to the throttle body based on piping ID. This makes some sense as the MAF reads an amount of air at a certain velocity. If the MAF is placed too far away, I can see where there might be some off-throttle issues caused by a delay from when air is measured and the time that it hits the throttle body.
I am with the last post. If the cheap route is not working, then buy an engineered piece from a reliable company. |

No prob. I bought it the 1st week it was available from McGeorge Toyota on the web for $2900. From what I understand is you can get it for way less as some dealers are just trying to get rid of it. It wasn't a big enough seller for them as the tC in some areas are becoming a Chic's car. No I am not stereo typing girls in general. There are a handful of hotrodders, tuners, and racers out there who are female. The fact is that men severly out number the women on this one so it is just a plain truth.
OK, enough of the dsclaimer. I had the my Dealer install it for $300. It was a price break as I was going to be the 1st install that hey had. Apparently, Toyota does not give their mechanics very much training, if at all, on the Scion. This is especially true when it comes to the add-ons. I wanted to do it myself, but going from a limited 1 year warranty to a full power train warranty for the TRD was a no brainer. Also, if anything got screwed up, and it did, then Toyota, Scion, and the Dealer were legally bound to repair it> |
