    Default Trd idler

I had installed a 2007 trd super charger to my car and 2 weeks after the installation I heard a rattle ling bearing noise. Took it back to the dealer where it was installed and they said the idler had gone out. Waited a month for the dealer to receive the part and install it. Well, its 3 weeks now and im hearing the same bearing noise and I'm sure it's the idler. I know it's not my driving because I haven’t pushed the vehicle yet. Is this a defective part???

Navy, care to chime in on this one since you're the TRD supercharger expert?

First, are you sure that the Dealership actually replaced the bad idler pulley or just tried to lube up the old bearing? Yes, it is a Toyota Dealership but time and time again, that has proven not to mean much of nothing. These are franchises and Toyota is not in the Dealership business.

With that said, it is very possible that the new pulley has gone bad as well. Problem; TRD uses a sealed bearing that is really not up for the loads implied upon it. Depending on you area, you might have a bearing supply house local that can source you a better bearing to stop this issue.

Was this a new TRD S/C kit or a used one? Do you have any aftermarket pullies, ie. crank, alternator, water pump, S/C? If so, it is possible that the TRD supplied serpentine belt is too taught causing an increased load factor on the said idler pulley. The motor tensioner pulley could also cause this condition if it has somehow gotten it's spring in a bind.

Either way, have your Dealership contact TRD directly and verify any known issues and for the corrected part number for the actual bearing in the idler pulley. It is under warranty so they have to resolve the issue.

Thank you for the info. I did leave out one thing on about the issue. It's a 07 s/c and my car is a 06. It runs great and all, but just the noise is the issue. I only hear the bearing noise when the car is cold at 1000 rpms. Once I have it going for a while the noise is completely gone even at 1000 rpms. Well I just came back from the dealership and they couldn’t figure anything out because there was no noise. So I'm going to leave it Sunday over night there and Monday when the technician shows up he will hear it for him self and I'll just have to wait to see what happens from there. As far as the warranty, TRD wouldn’t honor it because the s/c is a 07 and my car is a 06.

Then it is up to the Dealership to get it right. Make sure to have them contact TRD directly to work out the problem.
