    Question Throttle Body Questions

Would the weapon-R (or any other brand) throttle body offer significant results? Is the $500 worth the investment? I understand that anything that allows the car to breath easier is beneficial, I just haven't heard of many people with this mod.

Would this change the sound (rasp, loud, etc)?

Weapon-R Throttle Body???? I am not aware of this. Did you mean their 4-2-1 header being that you posted in the Exhaust Section?

No sir. Its a throttle body. I'm on my phone right now, but will post the link when I'm at my computer. Might be andysautosport.com? Judging by your response I'm guessing it is worth while?

Stock motor is not going to see any appreciable gains if at all with this intake. cams and head work is where gains will be had including that of F/I, higher compression, and larger injectors. It might cause a throttle response on the low end to drop on stock setup. I/H/E might help squeeze a little more out of it but w/o a piggyback, the ECM is going to flatten the gains out.

BTW: Jotech Motorsports has the Descendant intake manifold and fuel rail on a built motor sitting in their showroom. I should know, it's mine.

Note: The only purported aftermarket TB for the 2AZ-FE was from the now defunct Alphawerks back in 2005. It never materialized. I sent the OEM TB off to analyze it for upgrade or a billet copy. The OEM unit does not have enough material to bore it to a larger diameter. A billet unit of a larger bore would be costly. There are other TB with Drive-By-Wire on larger Toyota motors that might work with an adapter.

If you looking for an intake manifold, I would get a decendant. I am considering buying one for my 06 Scion tC, but spending almost $600 is bit steep. The intake manifold is constructed from billet aluminum, allows for more air flow and more HP/Torque.

Okay, so what about a throttle body spacer? Do these help? Sorry for any confusion I've caused.

Throttle body spacers get a lot of mixed opinions, but I have one on my tC and I haven't had any probs w/ it. I do know that TB spacers are great for tapping into so you can spray NOS into your engine. Me peronally, go w/ a Poweraid TB spacer, they're not that expensive and rather easy to install. All your really doing is making a vortex and spinning the air into the engine, but it also raises the TB itself up a little. Will not hurt anything what so ever. You may even pick up a a few ponies and a few more miles to the gallon as well. TB spacers are used on Mustangs and as well as trucks that have TB injection.

I know you said i may pick up a horse power and maybe some mpg, but if I don't plan on using nos, is the TB worth the money? How many mpg and horse power do you think ill see?

Most people I have talked to that have a TB Spacer have seen on average of 1-3% increase in HP and MPG's. It may not seem like a lot, but IMO every little bit helps. I have one as well and I have noticed a little better throttle response and picked up about 2 more miles to the gallon. Plus I have an AEM Cold-Air Intake and use 89 octane. Like I said before, its been an up in the air thing for years and everyone has their opinions whether or not their worth it. I also have one on my 1995 Chevy S-10 w/ the 4.3L v6 Vortec and haven't had any issues w/ that either. If you want to buy one, go w/ either Helix or Poweraid, both Summit, Jegs, JC Whitney and other sites online carry them. A round about price should be $50-$75 and comes w/ a gasket.

There was a shop in Puerto Rico that did some dyno testing of these TB spacers. They stated that there was a slight decrease in WHP from using them. Everyone that has installed them has claimed otherwise. With all of these TB spacers up in the air, someone is liable to get smacked on the noggin
