Alright, I didn't see where else to put this, so I'll give it a shot here. Weapon R SW intake. What have you guys heard or has anyone had personal experience with it? WR intake manifold? is this intended for F/I or would built motors benefit from this mod. Also is there really any difference between all the other intakes out there, other then what they say themselves. |

The Weapon-R Intakes from what we have all discussed on here are more designed for forced induction and fully built motors. An N/A VVT-i will see very little gains and really isn't necessary. Our ECU/ECM work on a learning curve basis, but no one has been able to prove whether or not the Weapon-R or Decendant Intake Manifolds are really worth shelling out the money. If there were more dyno reports and actual feedback on either one of these, I would be more pursuaded to buy it. More R&D needs to be done IMO.
As far as Cold-Air Intakes go, every cold-air intake is basically the same. The tubing is made from air craft aluminum and the filters are the same. The only difference is K&N that uses a oil treated filter. I am not fond of an oil treated air filter, because if the filter is over oiled, the oil can ruin or gum up the MAF Sensor and get into the internals of the engine and cause other problems. I would stick with a Dri-Flow air filter. Most people will tell you to buy Injen over AEM, Weapon-R, K&N, Airaid, etc. because of the HP/Torque gains it boasts. Personally its all a sales gimmic to get you to buy their product. It all boils down to how much money your willing to shell out and what name brand you want on your ride. If you really wanted to, you could custom make your own cold-air intake with aluminum or plastic/PVC piping from a hardware store and buy a no name air filter for a lot less and will still perform the same as one that is made by a name brand company. In some cases, aftermarket cold-air intakes won't fit properly or aren't made for a particular year/make/model, so a custom made system has to be made due to clearance issues, turbo's etc.

So true. Whether you actually need or just want the intake manifold, I would suggest that you go with the unit from Descendant (World Racing). It is a much better designed piece and of high quality. I do not care much for the tig welding on the runners of the Weapon R piece. My race prepped motor has the Descendant manifold slung to the side.
