Supercharger or Turbo?

I have been debating which way I want to go. Seeing as though the cost is pretty much the same I am trying to look at the pros and cons. I know that a supercharger is less maintenance compared to turbo, but I know turbo produces a lot more horsepower. It is too bad you can't have both! Does anyone have a turbo kit and what sort of problems have you encountered? I know that turbo would not be covered under warrantee, but which one do you guys think is the best?

GO W/ TURBO...it's actually going to be more expensive...but it's definately worth it... Look into Treadstone Turbo or Greddy Turbo Kits...these too kits are the best on the market and will get you from the stock 160 to over 300 whp. Thats WHP not HP. Example: 300 whp = 326 hp. so ur gonna get ur tC flying past subaru's if you can pull of a short shifter, lighter body kit, boost controller, S-pipe, downpipe, and full exhaust... (HKS, Greddy, Borla, Magnaflow) if you really wanted your car to kill you w/ turbo you can have that puppy close to 360-380

That is exactly what I want. How much more do you think? I actually went to a Scion show in October, and I saw a TC with turbo, but the work looked horrible (there was welding?) and the Turbo was really small. I just don't want to get stuck with that kit!

Don't worry about the Turbo sizes. Believe it or not, its the compression ratio that you want to delve into. Thats all science though, so don't worry too much about it.

Check out this site for the most popular turbo kits. It lacks the Greddy Turbo, but it won't ask you to keep it off the streets or to use a cat-delete (not carb legal).

Definitely, go with Stage 1 or greater though. Not having a Blow off valve or intercooler has its consequences.

Ok so should I be going with high or low compression? Does it make sense to buy the parts all seperately or just get a kit that includes everything?

well coming from an srt-4 owner, ill go ahead and tell ya that a turbo has a lot more benefit than a supercharger because if u stay out of boost then u get gas mileage and when u want the power its there. but with a supercharger its always putting extra strain on the motor at low loads and they arent as versitile when it comes to upgrading, since you can only get but so big of a pully to increase boost and with a turbo you have unlimited possibilities. but i would recommend that if you want to keep your car streetable get a very small turbo like a td04 or t28, because all of the t3/t4's out there are usually .50 trims or bigger and are just too much lag for the 7-9psi u can run without tearing the motor apart.

not entirely true. While it is a supercharger, it is also a centrifugal design. You don't really see any boost until upwards of 3k rpm. In that respect, it works much like a turbo that is belt driven. It is just as possible to stay out of boost with the s/c than the turbo. Just layin that facts down

Go supercharged! less heat and less wear and tear on the engine. remember heat is the enemy! Get the trd supercharger and the zip or nst pully and you got one fast everyday driver. You dont want to get any higher that 9.5 psi on the stock 2azfe anyway. Plus you know everytime you turn the key the car is going to start! reliability something you dont get with some of the turbo kits. how can you go wrong.

go with the turbo cause you get more performance for the money. but if you're gonna be doing a lot of autocross or touge driving then go with the supercharger. its better to have that consistant boost.
