    Default Engine maintenance

My car has about 90K on it. I'm just wondering ( since most likely this is the case), what can I do to restore some of the power i have lost over the years. Clean injectors? radiator flush? I'm just looking for some things that will help me get a little more power back. and also keep the car running better and longer... even though it does go through hell sometimes.

Any help is appreciated. BTW i have a CAI, and an exaughst, looking at a header and NST pullies, just dont really have 500 to drop on getting parts and installing right now.

Buy a complete fuel system cleaner (STP, Lucas, Chevron w/ Techron, Marvels Mystery Oil). You may want to have an engine flush done as well, not sure if the oil change service places or dealerships still do them anymore. I believe your plugs are good till about/around 100K as well as the timing chain, but can be changed if it concerns you. I also believe that your coolant can be done as well and a new thermostat, just make sure the correct coolant is used (Toyota approved ONLY). When in doubt refer to your owners manual. As long as you have no leaks or aren't burning oil, I'd use a full synthetic motor oil (5w20-5w30) with Lucas Oil Full Synthetic Stabilizer, which I use in mine, works great!

How much is the fuel system cleaner? and an engine flush would be just hourly work?

A fuel system cleaner can be picked up at AutoZone, Napa, Advance Auto...etc, they vary from a few dollars up to maybe $10.00. As far as the engine flush goes, I would talk to your toyota/scion dealership, Valvoline/oil change shop or local mechanic. Some charge a flat rate, others may charge an hourly rate. The basic concept of an engine flush is to clean out sludge, build up/metal shavings in the motor to allow the engine to perform better and not have to work as hard.

A new serpentine belt is very important and vital, get a Goodyear Gatorback Belt.

Every shop charges different labor rates, so I am not going to give you any false info. I would make phone calls and get an estimate, then you know what your looking at. Here in Upstate NY our going labor rates are $65-$85 an hour.

If you ever get back down my way in the spring/summer you should come out to a car show, or meet up.
