    Default Swapping ecu's....

Hello everyone. I have a 2008 tc 5spd. I purchased a used supercharger kit from a Toyota dealer (off a display car). The kit is complete. The kit comes with a preflashed ecu. My question is, will swapping out the preflashed ecu from a different car cause me any problems? Check engine light, no start, immobilizeer, etc...?

Strange that an ECM (ECU) was pulled from a Dealer car as it won't run without it. The TRD Kit came with a FLASH module with the TRD mappings that supposedly allowed the stock maps to be reloaded in the event of a failure. You definitely need to have an ECM with the TRD calibrations for proper and safe operation of the S/C. 2009 and 2008 year models are fully interchangeable.

The motor should be able to run but the following will have to be done by the Dealership or mechanic via the Toyota Intelligent Tester.

    1. VIN - DTC P0630 if VIN is not correct
    2. The odometer memory is kept in the Combination Meter and the ECM. I can't seem to find the info on how that affects swapping components.
    3. The key codes for the transponder ECU will have to be re-registering for the Engine Immobilizer.

The dealer said that the customer that bought the car did not want the supercharger and it was easier for them to just put a new ecu into that vehicle. So now knowing what needs to be done to this new ecu that they are providing, should i just send my stock ecu out to be flashed (my local dealer can not do it), or should i consider other alternatives...unichip, greddy ultimate, aem fic, etc... any help here would be greatly appreciated as this kit is in the mail and i would like to have this all figured out before it arrives.

The Dealership should be able to reflash as it is authorized by Scion/TRD and they should already have the equipment as it is used for other reasons on all Toyota vehicles. It would be much easier and cheaper to have your ECM reflashed.

Save your money on the piggyback controllers as they don't provide much bang for the buck unless you have a really modded engine. Also, the ECM retains pretty much full control negating the piggyback to only fuel trims at WOT.
