Default overall performance parts thread now (changed title)

So I think i might want to get the TRD exhaust (axle back), but what are the pluses to it? Is it just sound or is there a little more power and stuff like that?

I'm not sure if i want to get otehr exhausts because i dont' like the loud "ricey" sound of most of them.

from what I have heard, TRD exhaust does almost nothing for power, its just all sound

can anyone suggest a good exhaust that looks almost stock and sounds close to stock?
I don't want to get an exhaust like those huge coffee can ones that many people have. its just not in my taste.
Also i don't like the loud booming sound of some of them too. one that is more on the quiet side of aftermarket exhausts would be nice.

I have the TRD exhaust and I couldn't be happer (well... at least until i go F/I). The power gains from any exhaust setup in a N/A car is so minimal that you shouldn't worry too much about it. Focus on sound and appearance imo. And in those two areas, the TRD exhaust is amazing. The sound isn't too loud; it's got a low rumble at idle and a throaty belch at open throttle. Also, it's pretty easy on the eyes (I just polished mine yesterday... omg beautiful <3<3<3)

::Edit:: Also, it's legal in all 50 states with regards to decible (sp?) level.

Precision Muffler has a nice sounding axle back. You won't feel huge gains but it uses a Magnaflow muffler vs. the nasal canisters.

that precision muffler looks nice and sounds great!

i think i'll make this into an "everything" thread now.

Whats a good header to get? I don't want to spend too much though (like 500 or up), i'm looking to stay in the 200 to 300 range.
and how hard is it to install headers?

MMW gets my nod. Comes with an anti fouler and S pipe. It is more $$$ but worth it for decent gains. Some of those YouTube videos have the mmw header and PM muffler (I am running them as well).

If you have the right tools it shouldn't take too long to do. 1-3 hours. Make sure you torque the header bolts properly.

For your price range, you won't be able to get the MMW header (unless you find a deal on a used one). I've read the DC Sports header is pretty good and it is around $300.

mmk. what are some other upgrades i can do to my engine?

i'm looking at doing an intake for sure.

Since i'm staying NA, i won't bother with the exhaust. and I read around and found out that headers usually give a very raspy sound (which i do not want)

Depends on what you get. The mmw and pm muffler doesn't sound nearly as raspy as the other combos. YouTube precision muffler and mmw header for the tc. It doesn't sound nearly as bad as you would think.

I'm leery about crank pulleys on the tC b/c I've read some very bad things about them. But that's just me.

I'll never put those billet pulley on any of my vehicles. An ATI yes no doubt. To me it's just not worth the hassle or the risk; hell even the benefits. You're better off just installing a lightweight flywheel...

alright. i probably won't mess with that stuff.

But um, i was talking to someone i know that modded his tc.

He told me to get these parts:

Injen CAI (the full one not the short ram)
    Invidia S pipe
    TRD axleback exhaust

with the prices i found, it totals up to be right under 830 bucks without shipping (and me doing the installing myself with a regular old wrench).

What are some places where i can get a good price?
I'm looking at trdsparks.com (where i got my strut bar and springs from)
and killertc (for the s pipe and cai).

i'm not entirely certain on a header yet though.

btw, the MMWs are really expensive! 500 some bucks? wow.

Well, most of the bad stories about the light weight crank pulleys seems to be with other cars. I have yet to hear of a bad experience with one on a tC.
As for the CAI, depending on where you live, short ram might be better. I live in houston and its very humid and it rains a lot. So if i would get the short ram because i dont want to take the chance of water getting into my engine and having all the work to replace it.

I live in maryland. We get a medium amount of rain and it usually isn't humid. So i think i'm fine. I mean, the hole is in the wheel well, pretty high up. So unless i decide to take my tc swimming in my pool, i don't think i'll get hydrolock.

So going back on the MMW headers...
those are Weapon R headers now right? Same thing, different name?
And that comes with an S pipe

I did some calculations (easy stuff) and found that if i were to not get Invidia S pipe, and get the weapon r one that comes with the header, the header would cost 304 bucks. (for the price i can get them at).

So should i just ditch the invidia s pipe and just go wit hteh Weapon R header and s pipe?

I'm still getting the injen CAI and probably the trd axle back for the more free flowing exhaust without the rice sound (unless it has a rice sound now due to the new s pipe and header)

Navy told me that the TRD exhaust does make a rasping noise once you put an aftermarket header on.
