    Default Megan Exhaust System?

I need some input. I just got my Scion tC 2007 and i have heard from different forums that Megan Racing Drift spec is a great exhaust system for a deep sound. Put i read on this forum that Megans have a problem with rusting really quick any more info on this system would be great. Another system i'm looking at is the Tanabe Concept-G. Any input would be great

Sound isn't everything when it comes to quality. Megan Racing products will leave you out in the cold in that aspect. Their Spec exhaust is about the only product from them that anyone has ever claimed to be great. Seeing the issues with their other products though (firsthand and posts), I would not touch their product with a 10 ft pole. I would go with a quality product like the Tanabe Concept-G. Adding a header is going to change the sound of any axle-back so be forewarned.

I assumed it would but how much of a change? I am thinking about putting a turbo in later on down the road but so far i haven't really seen/heard to many Scions that are that great with a turbo for all the hassle that you have to go through...but if i did go with the turbo would i still be able to use the Tanabe Concept-G or would have have to get a different exhaust again. I realize that exhaust systems with 3" piping are best for turbos

Here is the rub; axle-back setups are designed to work with the stock exhaust system to increase flow and to provide a more "throaty" sound. Changing any other component in the exhaust can be illegal in most States, increasing emissions and noise level. That is why reducing any backpressure in a stock exhaust with an aftermarket axle-back causes a marked increase in the decibel levels and the accompanying "rasp".

Yes, you can use the Conept G exhaust with your turbo. Unless you are going to be going with a high boost setup, that axle-back should be sufficient.

You must steer well clear of Megan Products. As a whole, their exhaust products are cheap crap. Trust me, I inspect underneath every parked tC that I come across. I can easily spot the faux stainless steel finish on this junk. Their other products are not much better; more like hit or miss.

If you have intentions of upgrading your exhaust, I would suggest going with (TRD, Greddy, HKS, DC Sport, Magnaflow, Borla or Invidia). Some exhaust systems may or may not look or sound as good as others, but if it was me, I would stray away from any " Fart Can Mufflers ", too obnoxios sounding and too ricey IMO. I would stick with a muffler or Cat-Back system that offers a lower, deeper tone. If you unrestrict the exhaust flow too much, you'll lose HP/Torque and also proper back pressure and in some cases you'll lose compression. A N/A application IMO should be no bigger than 2.5inches. Now for a F/I application, you'll want to increase the diameter of the exhaust.

When in doubt, consult with a performance shop that specializes in custom exhaust. Just because you see other people with certain setups, doesn't always mean you'll like it or its done correctly. In a month or so I plan on having my whole exhaust overhauled from the header back, and the performance shop I spoke with said go with a high-flow CAT (Magnaflow, CatCo), and also to keep all the bends as mandrel as possible and the exhaust piping the same size from begining to exit. A header is going to increase your performance, that is a given, but also will increase the decible factor some as well. Keep in mind a muffler is suppose to " muffle " sound or change the tone, but some mufflers just increase the sound and put off a very raspy tone.

Megan on the other hand is all garbage and I have had my dealings with them as well. A lot of their welds are poor quality, customer service is far from great, and the materials they use are poor quality as well. I would have to agree with Navy and stray far far away from Megan. Buy a 4-2-1 or 4-1 header (Weapon-R, OBX, Greddy, DC Sport, Strup). I would highly suggest you have the header sent out to Jet Hot and have it Jet Coated. Ceramic coating is good, but doesn't last forever. Jet Coating is a step above your basic ceramic coating and helps to decrese engine temps, which can increase HP/Torque and any engine that runs cooler, performs better period. This also eliminates having to heat wrap the header, which IMO isn't necessary and has shown over time to rust and wearout the header faster. Trapping in moisture ruins a header faster, and heat wrapping shouldn't be used on a daily driven vehicle, but for race applications only.

I have this exhaust and love the sound. It is deep and loud only when I romp on it, So when I see a cop I just shift up and cruise on by. As for the rust well I live in Connecticut and we've had some snow lately so the road salt has been thrown down, so in short I'll keep an eye on it and post the results this summer.
