i wouldnt go with a header first, go with intake and exhaust, intake first its the cheapest and easiest to install. Plus a header really wont help you too much untill you do those mods anyway, they all feed off of each other. Intake and exhaust help because the larger diameter ( depending on who makes it) and removing the huge muffler and something else thats mid pipe ( name is slipping my mind) makes flow out the air better. But remember you can only move out as much as you put in, so constriction in the intake detriments how much the exhaust helps

A header isn't a bad mod, but as stated by xlhockeyxlx, do an intake and exhaust first. If your going to eventually upgrade to a header, go w/ quality, not cheap. These headers will be the most popular: DC Sport, Weapon-R, Strup, Alphawerks. You also don't necessarily have to purchase an already made/prefab down pipe/s-pipe, most custom exhaust shops will custom make you on and having a custom made one will tuck up higher if you have plans on lowering your ride. Just stay clean of Megan's products, they aren't of the greatest quality.

Short, sweet and to the point, Megan = Cheap/Ebay, poor quality.

Most of their exhaust components are just horrid pieces with poor engineering and bad quality materials. Some have found their Drift-spec axle-back exhaust to be worth the money. Have not heard that about any of their other products. I know from firsthand experience that their header and s-pipe are pure junk.

For what it is worth, I find the DC Sports' header to be mediocre at best.

    Thumbs down Megan Bad

The last two picts are of the OEM s-pipe for reference. The very last is my Jotech custom built s-pipe showing how a 2.5" ID pipe can be tucked close. It needs to be wrapped to protect the oil pan though.
