    Default Exhaust help?

I had a flowmaster muffler laying around from my previous car and it sounded good on it. So I decided to have it installed on my 07 TC. I had the resonator removed and I HATE the sound. It's raspy and it sounds like I have a tin can back there. I plan on getting a HKS or Tanabe. Which would you prefer and will I have to put the resonator back on? Thanks for your help.

The rasp is coming from not having the resonator. Flowmaster mufflers are really nice, but they don't have enough sound absorbing material to help cut down the sound. I would upgrade to a Magnaflow, TRD or Tanabe Medallion Series Muffler. I would also pick up either a Magnaflow Resonator or a Moroso Spiral Flow Resonator.

Cadence is dead on. It won't matter which performance muffler you use, it is going to sound raspy without the resonator. A true glass-pack muffler should work w/o the rasp but can't guaranty that it will sound any better by itself.

The only down fall of fiber filled resonators and mufflers is the fiberglass packing will eventually deteriorate/break down. I ordered the Moroso Spiral Flow Resonator on 4/12/2011 from Summit Racing Equipment for $54.95 and it just arrived today.

True, but they are cheap to replace and they will usually last a couple of years w/o problem. It would have to be setup as a bolt in for that reason so that fabrication cost would need to be factored in. If I ever get a shop, a lift, and a mandrel bender (have a TIG already), I have some exhaust designs that I wan't to build and research. One idea is very radical. I am having trouble finding all of the mathematical equations needed to compute the design with. There is Boyles Law, Fluid Dynamics, and Helmholtz resonance that I have to deal with as well.
