Default Supercharger ?'s

I'm not too familiar w/ s/c's and all the components needed along with them... just wondering what all would be needed to run a s/c without detonation or any other problems. Thanks.

The TRD s/c includes everything you need. After that just do not buy the low octane fuel.

Not even an inter cooling system of any kind?

I'm familiar mostly with a turbo set up, so the S/C kinda confuses me.

So, instead of exhaust gas powering a turbine which compresses air, what dynamic of the car does a S/C use to create compressed air?

And wouldn't the end result be the same? Hot compressed air that requires cooling.

There's no I/C needed for a S/C?

with just the standard trd system, you dont need any intercooling system. if you go as far as raising your boost, i think most will agree that you'll need some sort of cooling system somewhere down the road. a supercharger works differently than a turbo, i cant really explain it, as my car isnt supercharged. as bwood said, you also i believe have to run at least an 89 octane. i think thats what i heard navylife say once before. hopefully he'll check out this post soon and give you all the correct advice.

A turbo, as stated above, is run off of the pressure of your exhaust gas. A S/C is powered by a pulley, like your alternator and your water pump. Since the super charger runs off the pulley it creates boost sooner, but is more limited in the amount of boost it can make.

There are two things about the air being hot, 1 it is not as hot because it is not intimate with your exhaust and 2 an intercooler will steal away some boost which is not easily recovered with a S/C. The best method of cooling, if at all, for a S/C application would be Meth injection.

I could expand on all of the info stated above, but I figured that was enough to answer the question.

The manual says to use 93 octane.

That is correct for stock installs. Since I had different mods and boosting to 9PSI, the ECM tuned itself differently. My setup just ran better on 89. This is something that would need to be tested on installs with mods. Stock, just do as bwood87 and the manual states; 93.

That kinda sucks considering CA doesn't provide 93 octane.

Yeah, California's octane levels are:

87, 89, 91

Even worse, we got the worst prices as well.

91 Octane will work fine. The TRD is 50 states legal so this was taken into account. Cali ain't the only place with just 91. Western OK and southeastern CO have the same.

Ummmm.....
So what i get, is that once installation of the S/C is in. You have to switch to a higher fuel type? I had no clue. man i have a lot to learn. School will never end.... SIGH......

Yes, you get a lovely little sticker "Premium Only" to put above your gas cap. What is Premium? Where I am from, that means 89 Octane. 92~93 Octane is Super Premium aka Super Unleaded.

NOLA is sitting at $3.55 for 87 Octane.

This site has taught me so much. When i first bought my scion i barely knew what a turbo did. Now my friend and I are just about to finish up turboing his prelude with all Ebay parts (yeah i know it was his choice and his car). But this site has helped a lot with everything and it real nice to have first hand experience on a car where if you screw up we wont care because it is a beater.

That was my rant for today.

yea my only drawback is no hands-on experience. everyone in A.C. just boils rice so i have no one really to latch on to.

Just buy a $300 honda civic and take it apart. Then try to put it back together. You will learn a lot. Nothin better than hands on experience. If you screw it up, who cares, its a honda.
