How do you have yours mounted? Are those pillars any good?
And if you throw a piggyback on there, does that affect the how gauges are hooked up to your car?

I wouldnt do pillar mount. They look ricey to me. I would do above the waterfall. And especially if you have an 07+ I wouldnt do the pillar because of the airbags. If you get in a crash god forbid then those gauges are in your face.

Yeah, I have those auto gauge extenders on my '05. They were an option that was already installed. Wiring gauges will be easier when you build or buy a jumper harness to connect a piggyback. You can install either one at anytime w/o issue.

Can someone shoot me a pic of your gauge mount?
A piggyback will not come with a jumper harness for connection?
Usually they don't. You either purchase your own pigtail or use the one they sell additional if they have it.

Ah, I remember seeing the pigtails being sold separately now when I was shopping around. It's all coming together now.
Hey guys, new here and my buddy and i are about to start his car to be a project car. he just bought an 09 tc and i am looking to put in the trd s/c into his car, any huge problems or such i should be aware about? and also do all trd s/c's fit and swap on all tc's or is an 09 much different? if you guys could help me out with this that'd be great thanks a lot man.
BTW: 1 more offtopic question, do all tc taillights interchange? thanks guys
your all great help!
-Simon
TRD SC has not been known for any issues.
The TRD SC for '05 and '06 is different from '07 to '09.
Also, TRD SC was recently discontinued by Toyota.
All tC taillights interchange. I have an 07 with 09 tails...
A turbo, exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it. With a supercharger, air goes in, witchcraft happens and you go faster - Jeremy Clarkson
Auto tranny, all years, requires an auto fit kit. 2005-2006 use the original TRD S/C. 2007-2009 use the 2nd generation TRD S/C.

Bump!
Where can I buy a s/c these days? Was TRD the only manufacturer of s/c's for the tC?
I'm thinkin s/c for 3 reasons: Lifespan of f/i & car. Cost. I'm more so into a/x than drag, and the low end power would benifit better than waiting for the turbo to spool up. eh? eh?

TRD pulled all S/C kits off the market having Dealers return them so that they would have units for warranties. Supposedly they destroyed the majority of the units to claim as a loss on taxes. I find that hard to believe so it is more apt that TRD is holding on the existing units for warranty repairs.
I currently trying to source thru Jotech a Rotrex C-90 unit. It is going to be a full on one off custom setup for my race motor. No, it will NOT have that stupid torque shaft drive setup.

Well piss. You think any aftermarket company out there will step up and start makin s/c for us? Or do we all have to wait for you to build yours in mass production?

That all depends on whether the new tC is actually being delayed till 2012.

If it is delayed, does that mean the probabilty of a s/c would be more likely? If so, I will go to Toyota factories around the world and just stand in front of people and poke them, and chat in their ear -anything to slow down productivity.![]()

Talk to Godzilla about this. He wanted way too much money for an appearance. Rodan was retired and Mothra moved to S.F. with his life partner so it looks like the job is yours. Suggest that you tell them you are 3rd cousin to Mecha-Godzilla.

BTW, I finally got my SC set up and re-flash fixed. Also put on meth injection and 02 intercooler set up as well. LOVE IT. Car accelerates so much better. I went with an Apexi SAFC NEO set up too. Car runs so great.
Thanx for all the help and advice Navy.
Cool beans Man. What did you dyno at and at what max PSI? You should update all of this in your Member Rides section.

Go Turbo or go home!!! The s/c are horrible for the tc and from what i have read about them there more upkeep as far as bearing and belts etc. If you want reliable speed and a high amount of HP go turbo
What was terrible was the TRD side of the S/C, namely the pulley/torque shaft system. This caused all of the known issues with the kits; pulley side bearings, input shaft seal failure, failure of the main compressor housing bracket. There was also the leaky plastic BPV. Other than that, the TRD tune provided plenty of head room for more boost and the Vortech S/C is a solid performer with plenty of low-end power left on tap, as long as, there was enough backpressure in the system. Yes. You heard that correctly. Backpressure. Let me say it again. Backpressure. Ooh. That word sends shivers down one's spine. In this case, though, it is your friend in the right proportion.
Speaking of bearings, there was absolutely no need to replace bearings in the actually Vortech unit itself. Vortech designed the S/C to be able to make up to 20PSI. Bearings were being upgraded to ceramic bearings that are quieter and slightly more efficient. As in all mass produced products, there is always improvements that can be made. The input shaft seal failed prematurely due to the imbalance caused by the torque shaft. This is not the fault of the S/C itself. Belts only needed to be replaced when changing to smaller diameter pulleys with the 14.5PSI pulley being so small that there is not enough grip surface area to keep the belt from slipping after a short amount of time.
To get that high amount of WHP from a turbo kit really steps up the price over the similarly priced entry level turbo kits that were comparable to the TRD S/C when it first came to the market. It also adds to the complexity which can drive up costs. Before the spat of problems that plagued the TRD S/C, the numbers game played more on the side of the TRD over turbos for reliability. Still, in the long run, a good S/C setup should outlast a turbo and be easier on the engine. All of that was discussed much earlier in this thread.
