all s/c require oil. u could be low or just need to change it and check your belt to see if its tight or your pully could be lose.

that i do not know im waiting for navy to step in on what oil and were to fill it at. try looking for a plug around the s/c if u find it stick your finger in there and see how full it is.

Oil gallery for the gearbox is presurized from a t-fitting from the oil pressure switch at the engine, therefore, if you have oil in your engine, then your covered. The oil gallery could be clogged, but doubtful. The TRD S/C as helical cut gears that have a lot of play in them. The noise comes as a standard option at no extra charge. You should be running 5W-30, synthetic is best.

so i went to the toyota dealer today and they said that the noise is not normal and wanted 350 to do a full check on it. didnt want to spend the 350 so i'll haev it checked out at a friends shop. how hard is it to take one of these apart to check the internals?

Not that hard, more of a prob to remove from the car. Issue is that you will need new o-rings and I don't currently knwo what the torque settings are. Why does the dealer want to charge you 350? Did you install yourself? Are you still within one year of pruchase? If so, then call TRD for direction. Also, try a different dealership. That tech may have not known what he was talking about.

well i got the car used and they looked in the records and said that it doesnt show where the s/c was installed. the 350 fee is just to look at it and see whats wrong. it will cost me extra to get the problem fixed. i'll take it to another dealer to get a second opinion on it. the sound thats comming from it sounds like somthing is loose in the s/c internals but it only make it when the car is idle.

That is exactly what mine does and it is perfectly normal. At this 2nd dealer, tell them it is under warranty and that you want them to listen to it first. This way they will be more inclined to not work on it and give you the correct answer. The other dealer may have just been fishing for profits.

Dang, they are charging you that much just to look at it?

rattling is normal, but MORE ratling is a sign of a bad charger. I had the HORRIBLE rattle before mine quit on me. Luckily I had it warrantied.
