Default New Member w/ 08 TRD SC Questions

Hello Club tC! I'm new here. I have an 07 Cobalt SS/SC and a few months ago my best friend got a Flint Mica 08 Scion tC (manual). he loved it at first, but then he got beaten by a few things, and got discouraged about the tC. I spent the next few months telling him how amazing tC's are and how much potential they have to lay down the ownage! He is seriously getting back into his car as of late and he is planning on getting the TRD SC for it and a NST pulley among another things. he loves Superchargers because most people turbo their cars, and he like to be different.

So my question is,I have heard the 08's have a 'non-tamper' pully bolt, not allowing pulley swaps, is this true? And how could he get around it? Could he buy a earlier model tC SC?

And whats the main difference, besides the visuals, in the 08's versus the 05-07s?

    Thanks Club-tC!

Your friend sounds like me, no the delusional part, but the S/C affinity. You are absolutely correct about the tC. Your Cobalt ain't too shabby either. I think that he is just wantign to beat you. Let me give you a quick rundown answers to your questions.

1.All TRD S/C come with the some sort of tamper proof system for the pulley. It is strictly the warranty on the S/C. The previous year models offered a cap that clicked over the pulley bolt. I have heard that the new S/C was revamped with an odd shaped bolt-head but cannot confirm it at this time.

2.Besides looks, the '08 tC is a direct copy of the tC. The difference between the '05-06 models and the '07 is strictly the MAF sensor, full CAN compliant ECM, some minor wiring changes, and a different optional Pioneer sub that is standard on the '08's.

Yeah man, I love the tC's! Sometimes I think I like it more than my friend does. lol.

He thinks the tailights are ricey and complains that the engine outruns the tach and that it needs a 6th gear, but I tell him to shut up and enjoy the nice, clean ride.

Question: Okay, so he could order a SC (btw, I am also an SC nut, i love em, lol) for a 07 tC and work from there? I take it members have done their pulley swaps on the 07 2AZ-FE's without problems?

I found in my searches that people with 08s say it has a tamper proof bolt head like you said. But I take it this hasn't stopped many people from making their SC'ed tC's pwnage donors.

Thanks for your help, I had a feeling this would be a good forum to come to, tC owners I meet tend to be insanely nice, cool people that are REAL enthusiast and don't go around hating on people's cars for stupid reasons. Thanks for the help.

New Member w/ 08 TRD SC Questions-untitled.jpg As you can see, there is a tamper proof bolt. It can be bypassed by several options.

    1. Order the tool from a tool supply house.
    2. Make your own tool by drilling appropriate sized hole in the end of a torx socket.
    3. Dremel out the center davit (pin) and use a standard torx socket.
    4. Welding a metal bar to the the bolt to remove.

I am with StreetracerJay on this one. It is hard to beat a good warranty.

Thank you all so much. I appreciate all the feed back and help. Please link the SC thread you make into this one, my friend now knows the tC has much potential, but he doens't want a hassel, and I can understand that, with the stage 2 in a SS/SC you need a special tool, but they give you the special tool, and they put lock-tight on the bolts.

This one only has one bolt, so it shouldn't be too hard. And do you guys have 'how to' guides on this site?
